Asiah Siddiqah Abdurrahman graduated from the University of Bristol with LL.B (Hons) and obtained a Certificate in Legal Practice soon after. She was called to the Malaysian Bar in March 2023.

Prior to joining Azmi & Associates in 2022, she worked under the Investigation and Enforcement Division at Malaysia Competition Commission (MyCC). She developed an interest in Competition Law while she was working at MyCC.

During her law school years, she interned at Wong & Partners (a member firm of Baker & McKenzie), Thomas Philip, Lee Hishammuddin Allen & Gledhill, and Azmi & Associates.

She joined Azmi & Associates in May 2022 as a Pupil-in-Chambers. She is currently a Legal Associate and a part of our Mergers, Acquisitions and Corporate Practice Group under the supervision of our Partner, Sharizan Sarif.

Insyirah earned an LL.B. (Hons.) from the National University of Malaysia (UKM) and pursues a Master of Laws (LL.M.) at the same university.

During her university years, she garnered multiple accolades in recognition of her academic performance and active engagement in extracurricular activities. To date, she has authored numerous research papers in diverse areas of law, which have been published in legal journals and online publications.

Khairunnisa Khairol Anwar graduated from Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) with LL.B and Shariah (Hons) in 2020.

She previously worked as a Protégé, Legal & Secretarial at Duopharma Biotech Berhad where she was involved in reviewing and negotiating various non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) and commercial agreements for pharmaceutical transactions. At the same time, she has also been exposed to intellectual property which includes trademarks and copyright matters. She was also attached to Hanif & Co. and Mahkamah Syariah W.P.K.L. as attachment student during her university days.

She held the position as the secretary for a community engagement project known as USIM GISO 2020: Kembara Ar-Rum to Padang, Indonesia back in January 2020. She has passion in Intellectual Property, technology and pharmaceutical related matters.

She is currently part of the Multimedia, Technology, and Intellectual Property Practice Group under the supervision of our Partner, Khairul Fazli Abdul Kadir.

Luqman Hakim Jam Sari Muhamad

Luqman Hakim Jam Sari Muhamad has recently graduated from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) with a LL.B (Hons).

He has undergone an internship with Messrs Mohd Irwan Mohd Mubarak in September 2020. During the tenure of internship, he was actively involved in legal research, drafting cause papers, preparing bundles and other support legal operations. He has also given the opportunity to work with the supervisors from various departments specifically General Litigation, Conveyancing and Shariah.

He has led numerous teams for managing events during his study ranging from university to the International level, inter alia, as the Head of Media Relation for International 8th Muslim World Biz Business and Conference Zone and the Head of Public Relation for International Islamic Unity Convention (ICON). He was offered the post of Secretary General for Al-Faruq College Representative Committee in 2018.

Further, he was also an active volunteer working with the NGOs for various target beneficiaries. He was also entrusted with the position of Executive Committee in 2020 and later elevated as the Vice President in 2021 of the same volunteering club.

He is currently attached to the Financial Services Practice Group under the supervision of our Managing Partner, Ahmad Lutfi Abdull Mutalip.

Heu Wen Yen graduated from University of Queensland with a LLB (Hons) Degree in 2018.

Prior to joining Azmi & Associates as a fellow Pupil, she worked as a Legal Executive in a commodities trading company and was also involved in managing corporate liability regime of the company.

She has undergone an internship with Shook Lin & Bok in the course of her Certificate of Legal Practice (CLP) program. During the tenure of the internship, she has explored mainly litigation and corporate work, where she was trained to carry out legal research tasks and drafted letters. She subsequently joined Zul Rafique & Co. as a paralegal in the Energy & Utilities Department where she gained further exposure in corporate practice particularly securitization and corporate governance.

During her tertiary studies, she volunteered in the Indooroopilly Uniting Church Clinic for Refugee and Asylum Seekers where she assisted in providing explanation on the procedure for immigration applications along with offering support with a wide range of issues including housing, destitution and education. In her final year, she was a tenancy law volunteer student in Tenants Queensland (QSTARS) offering personalised tenancy advice and advising on filing of applications to the tribunal. She is eager to explore various practice areas in the corporate field alongside taxation.

She is currently part of the Capital & Debt Markets Practice Group under the supervision of our Co-Deputy Managing Partner, Serina Abdul Samad and Partner, Moo Eng Thing.

Gabrielle Lim graduated from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom in 2020 with Bachelor of Laws (Hons) (Second Class Upper). She completed the Bar Training Course and was admitted to the Bar of England and Wales in 2021. She also completed her LL.M in Legal Practice (Bar) from BPP University, Bristol, UK in 2022.

While reading law, she had represented Taylor’s University Law School in the Novice Arbitration Moot Competition held by the Asian International Arbitration Centre and the Taylor’s Inaugural Moot Competition. She had also completed her internship with Messrs Adnan, Sundra and Low in 2020 where she gained exposure to banking law.

She commenced her pupillage with Messrs Azmi & Associates in April 2022. She started off in general litigation which she had assisted in various matters including professional negligence, defamation, and medical malpractice. She also assisted in a construction arbitration dispute. She then completed her remaining 6 months of pupillage with the Shipping Practice which her previous assignments include assisting in ship arrest, cargo claims, maritime arbitration claim and other non-contentious mandates such as the preparation of agreements and resolutions for corporate restructuring.

Gabrielle had also co-written on various articles that was published in the firm’s website, newsletter, and international platforms. She co-written on the following articles:

Ling Shin Ying graduated from Cardiff University in 2020 with an LL.B (Hons), class two, division one (2:1) and completed the Bar Training Course (Middle Temple) as well as LLM in 2021 from the same university.

During her degree days, she joined a pro bono scheme that was organized by Cardiff University and Hugh James, one of the biggest law firms in Cardiff.

She was an active student who participated various activities in her school days, such as being a guest speaker for school career week (2021), interviewer for The Times (2020) and mentor in Sunway A-Levels Student Council (2016). She was also active in volunteering work and was an AIESEC global volunteer.

Marina Tiwol graduated from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) with a Second Class (Upper Division) LL.B (Hons) in 2021.

She was attached to Mahkamah Tinggi Shah Alam in January 2020 as a legal intern, in which she was exposed to managing the relevant cause papers and documents filed by litigants as well as having the opportunities in closely observing civil and criminal hearings and trials conducted by the Registrars and Judges. During her final year, she completed the 10 sessions of “Anatomy of Advanced Civil Practice Protocol & Advocacy”, a special 30 hours course conducted by YM Dato’ Raja Ahmad Mohzanuddin Shah. This course had developed her interest in civil litigation.

Aside from academic activities, she was actively involved with the International Law Club in UiTM, being the secretary and was also given the opportunity to organise several events that trained her to work with people from different backgrounds and industries. She had also represented her Faculty in several mooting competitions such as LawAsia International Mooting Competition (2020) and Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Competition (2018).

Hazwani Kamaluddin graduated from University of Malaya with LL.B (Hons) in 2021.

She was called to the Malaysian Bar on 3rd February 2023.

As a home-grown talent, she started off her legal career as a trainee solicitor at Azmi & Associates and was dedicated to Projects Practice Group under the supervision of our Encik Zuhaidi Mohd Shahari and Encik Mohd Sallahudin Abdullah. She is currently a Legal Associate specializing in land-related matters including but not limited to real estate transactions, conveyancing, projects and infrastructure, and construction.

She has been exposed by our Partners in advising various clients namely Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad, Permodalan Nasional Berhad, Kumpulan Wang Simpanan Pekerja, Perbadanan Nasional Berhad, Kumpulan Wang Persaraan (Diperbadankan), Sime Darby Property Berhad, Koperasi Co-opbank Pertama Malaysia and Gamuda Berhad.

Some of Hazwani’s notable assignments are:

• Acting as the main legal counsel for three national institutions in a strategic investment collaboration for a sale and leaseback transaction of a high-tech industrial asset in Kulim Hi-Tech Park, Kedah for a total investment value of RM2 billion.

• Acting for the national airport operator for various land dealings including but not limited to the renewal of lease and tenancy for all 39 airports across Malaysia.

• Acting for a co-operative bank in land acquisition of a 14-storey office building known as Menara Naza located in Kampung Baru, Kuala Lumpur for a total worth of RM50 million.

• Acting for a company owned by the Minister of Finance Incorporated (MOF Inc.) in a land disposal via a private treaty contract to the dispose a charged land in Melaka.

• Advising for a state-GLC of Selangor for an audit review and due diligence exercise in relation to the sand and tin mining operation with its subsidiaries company.

• Advising one of the largest Malaysian infrastructure engineering and infrastructure companies for a due diligence exercise to establish a joint venture company with other stakeholders in developing a hydroelectric power plant located in Tenom, Sabah.

Alfred Tan Hsiong Vei graduated from University of Leeds with a LL.B (Hons) and was accredited with his Certificate in Legal Practice in 2021.

He was attached to the real estate department of Adnan Sundra & Low as an attachment student during his university days. During his tenure as an attachment student there, he has explored mainly on conveyancing, data entry and research work. Furthermore, in 2021, he also completed an internship with Quality Oracle Sdn Bhd, a firm that specializes in Intellectual Property matters. Throughout his internship with the firm, he was given the opportunity to gain a holistic understanding regarding the various types of Intellectual Property matters.

He was active student participating in various events organized by the law faculty during his university days. He is an active pro bono volunteer and was involved with several pro bono events in university. An example of his pro bono participations is Streetlaw Homeless at Groundswell Homeless Center in London in which he was responsible for giving a speech (under the supervision of a legal practitioner) and advice homeless people on their rights as a homeless person in the UK. Besides that, he also has a passion in writing and used to be secretary for ALSA HELP University.

He is very passionate about Corporate and Commercial matters and is always looking forward to gaining more knowledge about the sector.
