Dhanya graduated from the University of Manchester in 2019 with a LL.B (Hons). She subsequently completed the LL.M Legal Practice (Barristers) in 2021, a joint Bar Professional Training Course and Master’s degree program, and was called to the Bar of England and Wales as a member of the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple in March 2021.

She was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in March 2022. She is now an associate in the Senior Partner’s Office practice group working under the supervision of our Senior Partner, Dato’ Azmi Mohd Ali.

Izzati Asyiqin Adzhar graduated from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) with a First Class LL.B (Hons) in 2019. Having a keen interest in corporate and commercial laws, she later pursued LL.M in Business Law in International Islamic University Malaysia and graduated in 2020 where she was awarded as the Best Student for Master of Laws programme session 2019/2020.

She was exposed mostly to corporate and commercial courses such as Mergers and Acquisition, Corporate Finance, Corporate Law, Commercial and Consumer Law, Securities Law, Taxation Law etc. She was also exposed to courses on Islamic Law contracts and transactions.  During her postgraduate studies, she wrote several research papers and case studies such as “Analysis on Taxation of Illegal Income in Malaysia, New Zealand and United Kingdom”, “Case Study on Declaration of Dividend of Lembaga Tabung Haji (LTH) and Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (LTAT)”, “Examining the Protection of Shareholders in Schemes of Arrangement and Compulsory Acquisition of Shares” and “Case Study: Boardroom Tussle in Protasco Berhad and Med-Bumikar Mara Sdn Bhd.”

During her undergraduate year, she was attached to Messrs. Faizah Aishah Rahman & Associates as a legal intern in 2018. She undergone her internship with Puan Aishah Dato’ Abdul Rahman. During the tenure of the internship, she has explored mainly litigation and conveyancing work. She carried out several research tasks to help the partners to draft legal arguments in some ongoing cases. She was also taught to draft legal document in most litigation cases.

Some of her notable assignments during his tenure in Azmi & Associates include:

• Assisted in advising, drafting and reviewing Share Sale Agreement;

• Assisted in reviewing and drafting of a number of Sale and Purchase Agreement;

• Assisted in reviewing and drafting of a number of Lease, Tenancy and Sub tenancy Agreement; and

• Assisted in drafting of Supplier Agreement and Distribution Agreement.

She underwent her pupillage at our JB Office under the supervision of Partner, Syed Muhammad Ridza Syed Abdullah. She was also exposed to corporate matters under our Senior Partner, Dato’ Azmi Mohd Ali.

She is currently part of the Senior Partner’s Office under the supervision of our Senior Partner, Dato’ Azmi Mohd Ali.

Zhilal Adnan graduated from the International Islamic University Malaysia, with a First Class in a Bachelor of Law, LL.B (Hons) which he received in 2020. He also has a First Class in a Bachelor of Law (Shariah) LL.B(S) (Hons) which he received in 2021.

He was later called to the Malaysian Bar and admitted to the roll of Advocates and Solicitors of the High Court of Malaya in 2022.

Throughout his years of study, he gradually developed his interest and passion in banking and finance practices apart from corporate areas. 

Some of Zhilal’s most notable matters include:

• Assisting in several mandatory licenses application and other related manufacturing applications for foreign company in Malaysia including business premise license, income tax registration, and Employee Provident Fund’s registration.

• Assisting in a sale and purchase of property involving a foreign-controlled company in Malaysia and related taxation issues in relation to the purchase of the property.

• Assisting in the preparation of a strategy paper in advising several foreign companies on the issue of default of contractual duty involving a big-scale glove company.

• Assisting in benchmarking reviews on remuneration policy of directors between several remarkable multinational companies in Malaysia.

• Assisting in the preparation of legal advisories in relation to cyber-attacks and ransomware issues involving one of the prominent companies in Malaysia.

He is currently in our Senior Partner’s Office, under the supervision of our Senior Partner, Dato’ Azmi Mohd Ali.

UMAR IZAT NUBLI read law at Universiti Teknologi MARA and graduated with a LL.B (Hons) in 2019.

He served as an intern at the Attorney General Chambers of Malaysia in 2017 and Messrs. Wong & Partners, a member firm of Baker & McKenzie International (Messrs. Wong & Partners) in 2019. He then commenced his pupillage in November 2019 at Messrs. Wong & Partners.

He gained experience in various matters but spent considerable time on corporate and commercial as well as banking and Islamic finance matters. He was involved in, among others, regulatory compliance, licensing, due diligence and drafting of legal documents and legal opinions.

He was admitted to the Malaysian Bar in December 2020.

Some of his assignments include:

• advising a renewable energy power producing company for the sale of ordinary shares and issuance of preference shares to an energy business public company in relation to the issuance of RM975.0 million Sukuk;

• advising a multinational oil and gas company in relation to its proposed acquisition of an offshore gas field project in Asia from three (3) international oil and gas companies;

• advising on the structure of a joint venture between a Spain entity and a Malaysian entity in respect of engineering solutions services in the oil and gas industries;

• advising on the structure for a 100% acquisition of a target company by a public listed company for the purpose of expanding its diary business;

• advising Pelaburan MARA Berhad in respect of the acquisition of shares from minority shareholders in a public company involved in the business of financial services;

• advising SAMSUNG SDI Energy Malaysia Sdn. Bhd in relation to the exchange of lands for the production of EV battery cell facility in Negeri Sembilan;

• advising on the divestment of a subsidiary of Ministry of Finance Incorporated;

• advising on the disposal of 51% ordinary shares in a company engaged in the provision of safety consultancy, rig training and coaching in the oil and gas industry;

• advising on the proposed development of a biogas power plant with an installed capacity of 1.2 MW, in the State of Johor; and

• advising Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Selangor (PKNS) in respect of development of three (3) Rumah Selangorku projects.
