Sharifah Lyana Syed Muhammad Muzakir
Sharifah Lyana is a First-Class Honors graduate from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) in the year 2024.
She completed her 5 weeks internship at Zecon Medicare Sdn Bhd focusing primarily on Corporate Law. Throughout her internship, she delved into various aspects of Corporate Law, cultivating a strong interest in the field. Her responsibilities included assisting the senior lawyer in drafting ancillary agreements to the Concession Agreement between Zecon Medicare Sdn Bhd, The Government of Malaysia, and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). During her internship, she was assigned to draft the Hotel Management Services Agreement and Carpark Management Agreement. From this assignment, she learned that ancillary agreements are important as they complement primary contracts, mitigate risks, ensure clarity, and address specific aspects of contractual relationships to ensure the contracts are able to be enforced effectively.
In addition to her interest in Corporate Law, she is also keen on exploring Intellectual Property and participating in women-empowered NGOs. Sharifah Lyana took a one-year elective in Intellectual Property at UiTM which she studied the relevant laws regarding Intellectual Property together with the development of said laws in Malaysia. Besides her aspirations of becoming a successful lawyer, she is deeply committed to women’s rights. She is confident that her expertise can serve as a catalyst for giving voice to marginalized women who are seeking acknowledgment and empowerment within society.
Sharifah Lyana has been actively involved in various seminars and NGOs, such as DearHer, since 2019. DearHer is a youth-led initiative advocating for the advancement of women’s rights in Malaysia. Her passion for the advocacy on the above intensified when she had the opportunity to write her Final Year Paper on “A Legal Analysis to Address Period Poverty in Malaysia.” For context, period poverty refers to the inability of women accessing menstrual hygiene products due to financial constraints.
Additionally, this paper holds significant importance to her as it stands as the first academic legal analysis in Malaysia addressing on the severity of period poverty. Through her research, she aims to raise awareness regarding the severity of period poverty in Malaysia and emphasize the importance of collective efforts from the public, private sector, and society, along with improved legislation, to combat the issue effectively.
In summary, Sharifah Lyana is a driven individual and a team player, with a positive mindset. Her goal is to stay optimistic, humble and embrace every step in life as an opportunity to grow and evolve into a better individual, dedicated to family and society.
Her Master is our Partner, Wan Nor Nadia W.Ramli.
