Nur Syahidah Athirah Abd Karim graduated from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) with LL.B (Hons) in 2022 and graduated from the same with LL.B (Shariah) (Hons) in 2023. She completed both with First Class degrees. She was also the award recipient for Best Student in Evidence subject.

Before commencing her pupillage, she has undergone the attachment programme in the Commercial Litigation Department at Hisham Sobri & Kadir during her university days. During her attachment, she had the opportunity to assist the litigation practice group with drafting cause papers, conducting legal researches and producing several write-ups where she was exposed to commercial litigation such as cases involving capital reduction and company winding up.

She was an active student engaging in several leadership roles organized by IIUM such as being the Vice Secretary of the Muslim Youth Legal Interest Group (MYLIG) which is a subsidiary of the Law Students Society of IIUM Law Faculty. The group mainly organised programmes focused to facilitate IIUM law students to be exposed to legal practice.  She was also the Head of Bureau of Sports, Arts and Sustainability Club of the Law Students Society IIUM. She actively volunteered for event involving refugees such as the Rohingya children refugees where she acted in the capacity of the Program Coordinator in coordinating and overseeing the programme.

Her field of interest is in Corporate and Commercial Law as well as Banking and Islamic finance.

Irdina Jamal graduated from Cardiff University with a LLB (Hons) in 2021 and was subsequently admitted to the Bar of England and Wales by The Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn upon the completion of the LLM Bar Training Course.

Prior commencing her pupillage, Irdina worked as a paralegal in the tax team at RDS Partnership where she mainly assisted cases involving indirect taxes involving contentious and non-contentious matters. Further, Irdina was given the opportunity to shadow a High Court Judge in the Cardiff Civil Justice Centre covering matters of family law in 2022. She has also undergone an internship at Azmi & Associates in July 2021 where she explored various practice areas such as real estate, corporate & commercial and employment law.

During her university days, Irdina has acted as the student representative for Cardiff University to Lincoln’s Inn (2021/22) and was part of the Malaysian Student Society of Cardiff University Committee (2020/21). She also has taken part in internal mock trial competitions and was an active participant in online seminars and vacation schemes focusing on corporate law.

She has a developing interest in litigation and arbitration. Her Master is our Partner, Abu Daud Abd Rahim.

Abdul Karim Ariez Mohd Nur Harris graduated from Universiti Malaya with a LL.B (Hons) in 2022.

He had the opportunity to undergo an internship with PETRONAS under Group Legal, in Legal Downstream Department and was placed in the Legal Pengerang Integrated Complex division in August 2021. Throughout the internship period, he had the opportunity to assist his supervisor in drafting and reviewing agreements between external parties and subsidiaries, took responsibility for the classification of hundreds of agreements transitioning to LIBOR interest rate, and conducted substantial research on company and criminal law. He was also a paralegal at Mohanadass Partnership in February 2023 where he helped prepare cause papers, assisted the partners in trial and hearing preparation, and conducted substantial research on construction and employment law.

Karim was an active student in both academics and extra-curricular activities. In his second year of studies, he held the position of Head of the Faculty Achievements bureau of UM Law Review – a student-run legal publication body – where he was tasked to interview, write, and edit articles on the achievements of Faculty members and alumni. In addition, he was also the founder and secretary of ECOLAWGY UM where he helped organised environment-related programs inside and outside of the Faculty.

Karim was also an active volunteer outside the varsity, having volunteered with Rumah Kita, which provides temporary housing, nourishment, pre- and post-natal care for young women, and also taught in the Chin Student Organisation, a school for the Chin community. 

His field of interest is in Corporate and Commercial Law. He intends to strengthen his knowledge on these matters and continue to venture into the realms of corporate practice in the future.

Yie Xuan graduated from Cardiff University with a Second Class (Upper Division) LL.B (Hons) in 2021. Yie Xuan then further pursued her Bar Training Course at Cardiff University and was a member of the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn. She completed her Bar Training Course and was subsequently called to the Bar of England and Wales on the 28th July 2022 as a member of the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn.

She joined Azmi & Associates in 2023 and underwent her pupillage having the chance to be exposed to a varsity of assignments both in corporate and litigation areas. Upon being enrolled as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya, she is now part of the Mergers, Acquisitions and Corporate Practice Group under the supervision of our Partner, Jonathan Law.

• assisted a Malaysian marine and logistics service company in conducting a legal due diligence exercise and drafting due diligence report on a leading shipping coastal company with 22 subsidiaries for its proposed share acquisition

Muhammad Firdaus graduated from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) with a LLB (Hons) in 2021.

During his study days, he was attached to Messrs Nazri Azmi Islinda in June 2020 as an attachment student where he was exposed mainly to conveyancing work and was trained to draft Sale and Purchase Agreements and prepare loan documents for the clients. He has also undergone an internship as judicial clerk in the Research Unit Office of the Chief Registrar, Federal Court of Malaysia in August 2019 where he had the privilege to assist Federal Court Judges by conducting researches on wide issues of law.

He was active students participating in events organised by Persatuan Undang-Undang UKM as well as others, such as being a committee in Jessup Mooting Competition (2018), UKM Mock Trial (2018), High Level Round Table Discussion Budapest on Cybercrime (2019), and Tunku Jaafar Conference (2020).

Nurul Atiqah Abu Bakar graduated with Bachelor of Laws degree from the University Sultan Zainal Abidin in 2021 and was admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya on 25 November 2022.

She commenced pupillage at Messrs Amin Petra & Partners in 2021 to 2022 under the supervision and guidance of Senior Partner, Mr Noramin Petra Bin Nor Hanapiah.

During her pupillage, she was given the opportunity to handle various areas of practice encompassing Conveyancing which include drafting sale and purchase agreements, loan documentation, and drafting tenancy agreements. Raja Muhamad Zulqarnain obtained his LL.B Hons from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM). He commenced his pupillage in 2020 and was called to the Malaysian Bar in 2021. Back in his alma mater, he was elected President of the Moot Club and participated in various mooting competitions himself. He is now serving his second year of practice, with his main practice area being civil litigation. 

To date, he has been entrusted to:

• advise and represent clients in a variety of highly contentious civil and commercial disputes;   

• orally submit in numerous occasions up to the Court of Appeal;

• conduct review exercises on documents including employment contracts, partnership agreements and service level agreements; and

• initiate and/or oppose complex applications including normal and pre-action discoveries, removal of private caveat on an ex-parte basis, termination & setting aside of winding-up orders, intervention of winding-up proceedings, and Mareva injunctions.

Zulqarnain had represented clients in various disputes up to the Federal Court. These disputes include, among others, recovery of loan facilities, injunction against a receiver & manager and a debenture-holder, trademark infringements, wrongful termination of service level agreements, pre-action discovery of confidential documents, judicial review of a statutory body’s decision, and breach of an independent verification & validation agreement.

On his free time, Zulqarnain enjoys writing legal articles and judging international moot competitions.

In 2018, she underwent her pupillage at Messrs. Tan Norizan & Associates where she was retained upon her admission as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya. In 2020, she joined Messrs. K K Lim.

Izzat Zamri commenced his practice at Kadir Andri & Partners in 2012. He joined Azmi & Associates as a partner in August 2023. Prior to joining Azmi & Associates, he was a partner at Tan Norizan & Associates from the year 2019 and at K K Lim from the year 2020.

Izzat’s area of practice is civil litigation and his focused area is corporate and commercial disputes. His work covers contractual and tortious claims, commercial and construction disputes as well as defamation. He has represented clients in numerous disputes involving claims of fraudulent transactions, breach of fiduciary duties, negligence and infringement of intellectual property. He has acted as counsel in complex land acquisitions disputes including land reference, judicial review and appeal, contentious banking litigation and industrial relations. He represents a wide range of clients including public listed companies, government agencies, private entities and individual clients. He has significant advocacy experience before the High Court, the Court of Appeal and the Federal Court.

Apart from court litigation, he also represents clients in mediation and adjudication under the Construction Industry Payment and Adjudication Act 2012. Despite being a litigator himself, he is passionate about the other means of dispute resolutions especially private mediation.

His inclination towards litigation practice started early. Back in law school, he actively participated in various moot court competitions at the national and international levels including Maritime Law Moot Court Competition (Sydney, 2010), Philip C. Jessup Moot Court Competition (2010), LAWASIA International Moot Court Competition (2010) and International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition (2009). Izzat was among 5 Malaysian students awarded with the Bursa Malaysia Scholarship Award for the year 2007.

Now, he is frequently invited to judge moot court competitions at national and international levels including Vis East Moot (Hong Kong, 2022 to 2023) and AIAC Pre-Moot for Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot (2020 to 2023). He was the Moot Director of the Thomas Philip Novice Arbitration Mooting Competition twice in 2016 and 2018.

Fazlyn Yu Mohd Farid Yu graduated from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) with a First-Class LL. B (Hons) in 2021.

She was attached to High Court Johor Bahru as a legal intern in 2020. She underwent her pupillage at our JB Office under the supervision of Partner, Syed Muhammad Ridza Syed Abdullah. During her pupillage, she was involved in conveyancing-related matters and in the drafting of conveyancing agreements which consisted of sale and purchase agreements and loan agreements. She was also involved in corporate matters under the supervision of our Senior Associate, Mohd Zam Mustaman.

Having a keen interest in research and analysis, she pursued Master of Laws (LL.M) in UITM and was awarded with the Excellent Candidate Award with a CGPA of 3.88. The core elective subjects that have been taken during the master’s degree are advanced company law, corporate insolvency law, Islamic banking and securities law, insurance law, shareholder remedies, and the law of electronic commerce. Other than that, during her postgraduate studies, she joined the International Law Student Conference by submitting a research paper on the controversies and challenges of Islamic banking products: A Comparative Analysis between Bay Al Inah and Tawarruq.

She is currently part of the JB Office under the supervision of our Partner, Syed Muhammad Ridza Syed Abdullah.
