Nur Faryana Hasleen Mohd Saupi

Nur Faryana Hasleen graduated with First Class Honours in LL.B (Hons) from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in 2025 and was named on the Dean’s List for 5 consecutive semesters.

Her academic journey was fully supported by Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam (JPA) Scholarship. Her early dedication was recognised through several national-level accolades, including the Anugerah Kecemerlangan Pendidikan Angkatan Tentera, Anugerah Pengakap Raja, and Anugerah Ketua Pengakap Negara.

Driven by a desire to connect theory with practice, she has actively pursued legal exposure beyond the classroom. She participated in the International Islamic Banking & Finance i-Arbitration Competition (IIBFAC) 2022, where her team emerged as champions. She also took part in the Ahmad Ibrahim Advocacy Competition 2021, where she gained valuable experience in simulated client consultation and legal analysis. These experiences have strengthened her analytical thinking, research capabilities, and advocacy skills.

Beyond the academic realm, she has established a strong record of leadership and community engagement. As the Secretary II of the AIKOL Well-Being Club, she was entrusted with the club’s administrative filing. She further expanded her skills by serving on the organizing committee for the ASEAN Run 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, where she gained practical experience in event coordination and regulatory compliance. Her heart for the community is equally notable. She participated in Jaulah Kasih Ummah 7.0 in Thailand, distributing food parcels and assisting with circumcision initiatives for underserved Muslim communities. She also served as a volunteer for Keeperku @ Zoo Negara. These diverse experiences reflect her ability to lead, serve, and adapt across various environments.

Adding to her diverse exposure, Faryana completed a 10-week internship at the Court of Appeal, where she gained meaningful exposure to appellate procedures and judicial reasoning. During her attachment, she was entrusted with preparing case summaries for the judges, which sharpened her ability to distill complex legal issues and synthesize judgments efficiently. She also had the opportunity to observe proceedings and attend hearings. This immersive experience deepened her understanding of courtroom advocacy, procedural intricacies, and the practical application of legal principle.

She is now eager to venture into the world of corporate and commercial law. Her Master is our Partner, Mohd Sallahudin Abdullah.

Arienne Lim Li-Ann

Arienne Lim graduated from Queen’s University Belfast with a LL.B (Hons) (First Class Honours) in 2020 and earning her Certificate in Legal Practice in 2023.

She completed her pupillage at Julian Stephanie under the mentorship of Ms. Stephanie Ang, where she was primarily involved in civil litigation. Her work focused on strata management disputes and debt recovery matters, through which she developed practical experience in legal research, drafting, and preparing cause papers and court documents. She has also assisted in more complex matters including corporate fraud allegations and contentious creditor actions, gaining valuable perspective into commercial disputes and litigation strategy.

Arienne was admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in July 2025.

Cecil Lim Tze Loong

Cecil Lim read law at the University of Leicester, where he obtained his Bachelor of Laws (Hons) in 2011 before being called to the Bar of England and Wales by the Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn, London in 2016. He subsequently earned a Master of Advanced Corporation Law from the University of Michigan Law School, a Master of Accounting from the University of Cambridge, and a Master of Laws from Columbia Law School, New York. While at Columbia, he was awarded the Parker School Certificate of Achievement in International and Comparative Law.

He undertook his pupillage at the Sabah State Attorney-General’s Chambers in Kota Kinabalu before chambering at Shook Lin & Bok in Kuala Lumpur. He was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in September 2018 and as an Advocate of the High Court of Sabah and Sarawak in Sabah in April 2019.

Cecil has worked at several corporate law firms, focusing on corporate and commercial law matters, including mergers and acquisitions, corporate advisory, joint ventures, foreign direct investment, regulatory compliance, and fintech. He has led and conducted due diligence exercises and has drafted or reviewed a broad range of transactional and non-transactional documents.

He also possesses in-house experience, having served as Regional Legal Associate at a fintech company, which is a Recognized Market Operator as licensed by the Securities Commission Malaysia for equity crowdfunding. He later gained further exposure as in-house counsel at one of the largest infrastructure conglomerates in Malaysia. During his tenure in-house, Cecil amended the listing rules of a private digital securities exchange, contributed to the development of an internal equity crowdfunding framework, and advised on fundraising initiatives and the tokenisation of alternative assets.

He is currently under our Capital Market/ Initial Public Offering (IPO) Practice Group under the supervision of our Senior Partner, Dato’ Azmi Mohd Ali and the Partner, Norhisham Bahrin.

Gavin Chan graduated from the University of Exeter with a Second Class (Upper Division) LL.B (Hons) in 2022.

He was subsequently called to the Bar of England and Wales (Middle Temple) upon completion of the Barrister Training Course at City, University of London in 2024. During his course, he was awarded a grade of Very Competent overall, with Distinctions in Advocacy Submissions, Cross-Examination, and Conference Skills. 

Throughout his academics, Gavin has had the opportunity to take part in a number of legal internships and mini-pupillages, which have greatly enhanced his working experiences. He undertook his mini-pupillage experience at Whitestone Chambers, a civil litigation firm, where he focused on drafting claim forms and defence statements along with legal research. Subsequently, he secured a mini-pupillage at Furnival Chambers, a firm focused on criminal litigation work, where he shadowed barristers and gained exposure to client conferences and trial preparation.

Prior to commencing his pupillage, Gavin worked as a paralegal under the Corporate Mergers & Acquisitions (“M&A”) team in Rosli Dahlan Saravana Partnership. During his paralegal tenure, he assisted the legal team in reviewing and amending legal and corporate documentation, conducting case law research, and drafting legal articles and meeting minutes. He also worked closely with his supervisors in preparing legal opinions, gaining hands-on experience in legal analysis and professional drafting.

Gavin subsequently commenced his pupillage at Jeff Leong, Poon & Wong, under the Corporate Capital Markets team. Throughout his year as a pupil, he gained extensive experience and exposure into the legal due diligence process of Initial Public Offering’s (“IPO”). His work encompassed a wide range of responsibilities, including managing the preparation of legal due diligence reports, conducting comprehensive compliance legal research, ensuring the proper compilation of legal documents for submission by facilitating the execution and collection of signing pages from the Due Diligence Working Group (“DDWG”) members, drafting progress meeting minutes and verification notes, liaising with fellow members of the DDWG in order to expedite outstanding matters, participating in interviews with key senior management, directors, major customers, and suppliers as part of the due diligence process, and assisting in reviewing and amending Information Memorandums and Draft Circulars to ensure compliance and readiness for submission.

Apart from his legal experiences, Gavin has undertaken positions of responsibility which have helped develop his team working skills and leadership qualities. During his time in Exeter, Gavin was the Publicity Director of Exeter Malaysian Society, where he oversaw social media posts regarding the management and social wellbeing of the society itself. Gavin was called to the Malaysian Bar and admitted to the role of Advocates and Solicitors on 14 March 2025.

He is currently a new Associate under our new unit Equity & Debt Capital Market Practice Group under the supervision of our Senior Partner, Dato’ Azmi Mohd Ali and the Partner, Norhisham Bahrin.

Farah Deena Azmi

Farah Deena graduated from the University of Leeds in 2013 and was involved in various business ventures before obtaining her Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) in late 2018.

She commenced her pupillage at Azmi & Associates in 2020 under the supervision of our former Co-Deputy Managing Partner, YA Dato’ Raja Ahmad Mohzanuddin Shah (now a High Court Judge), and was called to the Bar in April 2021.

She is a legally trained professional with over seven years of experience in legal policy, legislative reform, and inter-agency coordination. She also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Finance and previously served as a Vice Chairman of the United Kingdom & Eire Council for Malaysian Students (UKEC).

She most recently served as Special Task Officer to the Minister at the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development, where she contributed to legal reforms, including reviewing three key Acts to align Malaysia’s protection laws with social and technological shifts. She also played a lead role in Malaysia’s CEDAW dialogue with the UN. Deena is recognised for her strengths in legal research, negotiation, policy drafting, and strategic legal advisory.

She is now part of the Mergers & Acquisitions, Corporate Practice Group, under the supervision of our Partner, Sharizan Sarif.

Anas Haziq graduated with CGPA 3.48 in Bachelor of Laws from Universiti Malaya in March 2025 under JPA Scholarship.

He previously worked as a Paralegal at Messrs. Sivananthan from September 2024 to January 2025, where he assisted in legal research, case preparation, legal drafting, and transcribing Notes of Evidence. He also underwent an internship at the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) Putrajaya in July 2023, where he was exposed to criminal and administrative law, and contributed to the drafting of legal documents and international agreements.

He was actively involved in student leadership, having served as the Vice President of the Law Students’ Development Association Malaysia (LSDA) and as the Faculty of Law Representative in the Universiti Malaya Students’ Union (UMSU), where he advocated for student welfare, academic concerns, and mental health initiatives. Prior to university, he was also President of the Jawatankuasa Perwakilan Kolej (JPK) at UiTM Dengkil and Vice President II of the Student Representative Council at MRSM Parit, where he developed his leadership and organisational skills from an early stage.

Apart from the legal field, he also spent over two years as a barista at a local coffee shop in Kuala Lumpur. From barista to barrister—he’s proof that both careers require perfect balance, sharp focus, and just the right amount of grind.

Amirrul Eiman graduated with a Second Class Upper in the Bachelor of Laws from the International Islamic University Malaysia.

He completed his pupillage at Messrs Shook Lin & Bok and continued as a Legal Associate from August 2023 until December 2024. Thereafter, he continued his practice as a Legal Associate at Messrs Peter Huang & Richard from January 2025 to April 2025 before joining Azmi & Associates. He was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in August 2023.

He is a multifaceted legal practitioner with experience spanning corporate and commercial law, banking and finance (both Islamic and conventional), capital markets, intellectual property, civil litigation, and regulatory advisory. He has represented a wide range of clients, including statutory bodies, co-operative societies, government-linked companies, and multinational corporations, particularly in the infrastructure, railway, technology, energy, and real estate sectors.

His transactional work includes advising on major infrastructure and energy projects, with involvement in drafting and negotiating a variety of commercial agreements such as joint venture agreements, shareholders’ agreements, housing development agreements, and investment instruments. In the construction realm, he has experience in preparing instruments related to engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) contracts, including those involving government-to-government projects. He also played a pivotal role in drafting a head of agreement for the EPCC of an airport and runway, as well as a conditional letter of award for interconnection facilities to a railway network.

In the field of Islamic finance and conventional banking, Amirrul has advised on the Shariah restructuring of non-Shariah compliant facilities for licensed Islamic banks and has drafted documentation for bespoke Islamic financing arrangements, including both syndicated and bilateral facilities. His work on the establishment of Sukuk programmes, including Islamic commercial papers (ICP) and Islamic medium-term notes (IMTN) — particularly those aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals — has earned industry recognition, including the Finance Deal of the Year 2024 award by Asian Legal Business. In connection with his Sukuk-related work, Amirrul has also contributed to the drafting of legislative instruments relating to tax exemptions, in collaboration with the Attorney General’s Chambers of Malaysia.

In addition to his transactional and regulatory work, he has handled matters in civil litigation relating to breaches of contract, defamation, breach of confidence, misuse of private information, and harassment. He has also been involved in intellectual property (IP) disputes, including cases involving copyright, trademark, and patent infringement, as well as claims for passing off and interference with trade, and has negotiated settlement agreements in IP matters. He has further acted in probate and estate administration matters for non-Muslim estates.

Outside of work, he serves as an Executive Committee member of the Sports Law Association of Malaysia, an organisation committed to the development of sports law and esports law in Malaysia. In this capacity, he is actively involved in initiatives and discussions concerning antidoping regulations, athletes’ contracts, and the legal framework surrounding sports-related IP licensing. He is also a volunteer lawyer with the Kuala Lumpur Legal Aid Centre, where he assists in matters relating to citizenship and statelessness.

Siti Nursyafiqah graduated with First Class Honours (Distinction) in Bachelor of Laws from the National University of Malaysia, where she was also awarded the prestigious Alumni Award from her university.

She completed her pupillage at Messrs. Murali B Pillai under the mentorship of the Senior/Managing Partner, gaining exposure to general litigation, corporate advisory, and insurance law, before being admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 2023.

She then joined Messrs. Shearn Delamore & Co. in the Dispute Resolution team, where she assisted in complex litigation matters, including cases before the Federal Court, and worked closely with senior practitioners. Her exposure covers a broad range of commercial disputes, including but not limited to company law, tortious claims, banking and financial disputes, and insolvency matters. Sofea Nabila graduated from the International University of Malaysia (IIUM) with a LL.B (Hons) in 2021.

She underwent her pupillage at Messrs Tawfeek Badjenid & Partners. During her period of pupillage, she had delved into conveyancing matters. She worked closely with the legal associates which involved drafting of legal documents and handling the process of transfer, discharge, perfection and gained significant exposure and experience on loan transactions for retail residential properties (both conventional and Islamic).

She was called to the Malaysian Bar and admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor in August 2023 where she began her legal career in Messrs San & Associates in managing the conveyancing process for a developer housing project in the sale of a portfolio of 100 units residential and commercial properties under Lembaga Perumahan Negeri Pulau Pinang and advising financial institutions in relation to the restructuring and refinancing exercises involving its retail clients. She was also entrusted in drafting wills and handling uncontested civil litigation matters particularly the application of probate and land administration matters.

In pursuit of further growth in the corporate world, she joined Azmi & Associates to venture into the realm of corporate practice in the future to explore any uncharted territory, venture and expand herself to create a broader horizon on her legal framework.

Fazlyn Yu graduated from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) with a First-Class LL. B (Hons) in 2021.

She was attached to High Court Johor Bahru as a legal intern in 2020. She underwent her pupillage at our JB Office under the supervision of Partner, Syed Muhammad Ridza Syed Abdullah. During her pupillage, she was involved in conveyancing related matters and in the drafting of conveyancing agreements which consisted of sale and purchase agreements and loan agreements. She was also involved in corporate matters under supervision of our Partner, Mohd Zam Mustaman.

Having a keen interest in research and analysis, she pursued Master of Laws (LLM) in UITM and was awarded with the Excellent Candidate Award with a CGPA of 3.88. The core elective subjects that have been taken during the master’s degree are advanced company law, corporate insolvency law, Islamic banking and securities law, insurance law, shareholder remedies, and the law of electronic commerce.

Other than that, during her postgraduate studies, she joined the International Law Student Conference by submitting a research paper on the controversies and challenges of Islamic banking products: A Comparative Analysis between Bay Al Inah and Tawarruq.

Throughout her legal career, she has primarily focused on Conveyancing, Corporate & Commercial, and Banking & Finance matters. She also has in-house experience, where she was exposed to corporate practice and company secretarial work.

Currently, she is rejoining Azmi & Associates at Johor Bahru office under the continued mentorship of our Partner, Syed Muhammad Ridza Syed Abdullah.
