Alfred Tan Hsiong Vei

Alfred Tan graduated from University of Leeds with a LL.B (Hons.) and was accredited with his Certificate in Legal Practice in 2021 and was subsequently called to the Malaysian Bar in 2022.

He was active student participating in various events organized by the law faculty during his time at the university. He is an active pro bono volunteer and was involved with several pro bono events. An example of his pro bono participations is Streetlaw Homeless at Groundswell Homeless Center in London in which he was responsible for giving a speech (under the supervision of a legal practitioner) and provided advice to homeless people on their rights as a homeless person in the UK.

Besides that, he also has a passion for public speaking and writing and used to be Vice President of Public Relations of Toastmasters International (HELP University chapter) and the secretary for ALSA (HELP University Chapter).

Real Estate
• Assisted PNB, EPF and KWAP with the sale and leaseback of an industrial asset in Kulim Hi-Tech Park for a consideration of RM2 billion;
• Assisted in a sale of a piece of land in Kelan Kechil Estate, Kulai, Johor worth RM396 million for PNB Development Sdn Berhad that involves the application for State Consent to Transfer, Economic Planning Unit Approvals and Estate Land Board Approvals;
• Assisted in the sale of two plots of land which forms part of the Malaysian Vision Valley project in Labu, Negeri Sembilan with a value of approximately RM1 billion for Sime Darby Berhad;
• Assisted in the renewal of lease on behalf of Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (“MAHB”) for twenty-two (22) airports in Malaysia;
• Assisted in the sale of a piece of land in Hicom Pegoh Park, Melaka at the value of RM45 million for Hicom Indungan Sdn Bhd which involves the application for foreigner’s consent as the sale is to a foreign company;
• Handled the completion of a Sale and Purchase Agreement in relation to the acquisition of a 150-acre land in Sungai Petani, Kedah for the development of an international racing circuit for Motor GP; and
• Assisted a real estate investment holding company in drafting and reviewing the Tenancy Agreements for three (3) prominent shopping centres in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.

Financing
• Handled the drawdown of RM17 million Tawarruq Financing Facility for a subsidiary of PKNS;
• Assisted with the drawdown of RM56.8 million Commodity Murabahah Term Financing-i for a subsidiary of PNB;
• Assisted with the drawdown of RM10 million Tawarruq Financing Facility for a subsidiary of Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Selangor (PKNS) to assist with the financing for a development of land in Klang; and
• Assisted with the drawdown of RM3.5 million Tawarruq Financing Facility for a ENRA Group Berhad to assist with the financing for a development of land in Sepang.

• Conducted legal due diligence and assisted in the drafting of a Shareholder’s Agreement, Share Sale and Purchase Agreement and a Share Swap Agreement in relation to Gamuda Berhad’s majority stake participation in a hydropower dam project in Tenom, Sabah;
• Drafted, negotiated and finalised a Management Services Agreement on behalf of UMW Development Sdn Bhd in relation to the UMW High Value Manufacturing Park in Serendah, Selangor;
• Assisted with the 100% share acquisition of a target company by Fraser & Neave Holdings Berhad for a value of RM258 million which involves the drafting of shareholder’s and share sale and purchase agreement and the preparation of a legal due diligence report;
• Assisted with the 20% share acquisition of a target company in Malaysia by a Singapore based company in the business of supply of ophthalmic lenses for a value of RM3 million; and
• Assisted with the inter-company disposal of 100% shares between subsidiaries of Koop Sahabat for a value of RM50 million.

Fatin Hazwani Mohd Hakimi graduated from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) with a First Class LL.B (Hons) in 2021.

In addition to her academic activities, she was also involved with the Law Entrepreneurship Club (LEC) at UITM. This involvement provided her with opportunities to organize various events, allowing her to work with people from different backgrounds and industries.  Furthermore, she represented her Faculty in several sports events, such as volleyball and marathons. Additionally, she actively participated in Gamejaya, a club for traditional Malay music instruments, where she trained school students to play Gamelan.

She had undergone her pupillage at Azmi & Associates under the tutelage of Puan Suhara Binti Mohamad Sidik. She was shortly attached to the Financial Services Department. During her pupillage, she gains exposures to corporate & commercial and mergers & acquisitions works under the direct supervision of our Senior Partner, Dato’ Azmi Mohd Ali.

Fatin Syaheera Mohd Zuki graduated from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) with LLB (Hons) Upper Second Class in 2020.

Previously, she was a Judicial Clerk in the Research Unit, Chief Registrar’s Office Federal Court Malaysia from October 2020 until May 2021. During her service as a Judicial Clerk, she assisted the apex court judges in legal research and drafting preliminary opinion for public interest cases. She also worked together with the Research Unit in legal research and opinion drafting as well as other administrative works.

She was an active student participating in various events organized by UiTM and others such as being the committee member in the Conveyancing for Dummies Seminar in 2018, Novice Arbitration Mooting Competition (NAMCO) in 2017, and the UiTM Mock Trial: Genesis in 2016.

Tengku Nazmi Tengku Anuar

Tengku Nazmi Tengku Anuar graduated from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) with a LL.B (Hons) in 2020 with an LLB Hons degree Class 2 (Upper).

He has previously worked as a Part-Time Research Assistant for Professor Ida Madieha Bt. Abdul Ghani Azmi from 2019 to 2020 where he assisted in research primarily on intellectual property and international trade. Furthermore, he also assisted in the preparation of research proposals and conference presentations on topics related to trademark and patent issues. Beyond that, he also undertook an internship with RamRais & Partners (now known as Ram Caroline Sha & Syah) in 2019 where he was exposed to litigation and conveyancing work and assisted in the drafting and preparation of court documents.

In his university days, he was primarily active in the IIUM student-run law journal, Law Majalla, in which he was part of the revival committee in 2018 and subsequently served as its Editor-in-Chief in 2019. During this time, he assisted students in editing their journal submissions and subsequently ensuring that they were up to the high standards of an academic journal while also helping to organize the running of the journal.

Chris Lim Chee Kiung graduated from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) with a LL.B (Hons) 1st Class in 2020.

Prior to this, he was an intern in the Chambers of Queenie Hoh Li Chian, where the firm mainly focused on civil litigation. He was given the opportunity to assist with the drafting of cause papers and also being tasked with extensive research.

During his study he received a number of awards such as the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and International) Award at the 33rd UUM Convocation. He is also a receiver for the UUM Dean’s List Awards since his 2nd semester until the end of his LL.B. He is also one of the scholars for the Biasiswa Kerajaan Negeri Sabah, 2016-2020. He is also the recipient of Pelajar Cemerlang STPM – Majlis Anugerah Pelajar Cemerlang Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan 2016.

On the co-curricular side, he is also an active student participating in events organized by UUM Law School as well as others, such as being the Assistant Director of Legal for Model United Nations (Chapter UUM) and also a remarkable Master of Ceremonies for the university. He was also an active volunteer for events in as well as outside UUM, such as participating for voluntary work through Mobile Court Sabah as well as being the participant for Kunjungi Rumah Seri Kenangan Kangar.

Wardah Yumna Yunus graduated from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) with LL.B (Hons) in 2021.

In July 2019, she interned at the High Court of Malaya in Shah Alam, where she reviewed cases for the Insolvency Department and wrote summaries on criminal and civil trials. Apart from receiving the Dean’s List Award for three semesters, she had actively participated in various moot competitions. She won first runner-up in the Jessup Intercontinental Friendly Moot rounds on 8 March 2021, going against teams from Portugal, Latvia, France and other European countries. In August 2018, she was a quarterfinalist in the Asia Pacific Rounds of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Arbitration Moot held at Seoul National University. In November 2018, she mooted at University of Stockholm, Sweden for the global rounds of FDI Arbitration Moot.

At the national level, she won first runner-up in the Philip C. Jessup Moot Court Competition 2019, and received the Best Oralist and “Promising Speaker” awards for the same tournament in 2019 and 2020. She also won first place in the Novice Arbitration Mooting Competition (NAMCO) 2018 held at Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC). In 2019, she was a semi-finalist and top 10 oralists for the LawAsia Moot Competition.

Besides that, she has a profound interest for researching and writing. She is also passionate about civil litigation and was a student of YM Raja Dato’ Ahmad Mohzanuddin Shah Raja Mohzan under the special program called “Beyond the Classroom: Anatomy of Advanced Civil Practice Protocol & Advocacy” organized by UiTM. Her passion for advocacy also drives her interest to be involved in civil litigation.

Vanessa Iskandar Ng graduated with 1st honours from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) in 2020.

She was an avid mooter and represented UiTM in various moot competitions such as the first ICC-KLRCA Willem C. Vis Pre-Moot (2017), 12th LAWASIA International Moot Malaysia National Rounds (2017), 14th International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition (2017) and Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition (2019). She is also fluent in Mandarin.

In 2017, she and her team emerged as the champion in the 14th International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition and represented UiTM at the 16th Red Cross International Humanitarian Law Moot competition which took place at the University of Hong Kong. Her team also emerged as the first runner-up in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, National Rounds in 2019.

She did her internship at Izral Partnership in 2019, mainly assisting the partners and legal associates of the firm with research on various areas of law as well as transcribing and translating documents.

Izzati Asyiqin Adzhar graduated from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) with a First Class LL.B (Hons) in 2019. Having a keen interest in corporate and commercial laws, she later pursued LL.M in Business Law in International Islamic University Malaysia and graduated in 2020 where she was awarded as the Best Student for Master of Laws programme session 2019/2020.

She was exposed mostly to corporate and commercial courses such as Mergers and Acquisition, Corporate Finance, Corporate Law, Commercial and Consumer Law, Securities Law, Taxation Law etc. She was also exposed to courses on Islamic Law contracts and transactions.  During her postgraduate studies, she wrote several research papers and case studies such as “Analysis on Taxation of Illegal Income in Malaysia, New Zealand and United Kingdom”, “Case Study on Declaration of Dividend of Lembaga Tabung Haji (LTH) and Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (LTAT)”, “Examining the Protection of Shareholders in Schemes of Arrangement and Compulsory Acquisition of Shares” and “Case Study: Boardroom Tussle in Protasco Berhad and Med-Bumikar Mara Sdn Bhd.”

During the tenure of the internship, she has explored mainly litigation and conveyancing work. Mahadi grew up in Penang, Malaysia, attended the Hutchings Primary School and the Methodist Boys’ Secondary School and then had his tertiary education in the United States of America, graduating  from Brandeis University, Massachusetts with a Bachelor of Arts (Economics) degree in 1976 under the Wien International Scholarship Program. After graduation, he worked for a commercial bank and a Nomura-affiliated investment bank and completed his Diploma in Banking from the Institute of Bankers, London. He graduated from the University of London with a LL.B. (Hons), completed his Certificate in Legal Practice, Malaysia and has been admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya.

He was in the service of PETRONAS, the national petroleum company of Malaysia for 33 years and held positions in the international marketing, corporate planning, finance, oil downstream planning and legal services divisions of PETRONAS. Mahadi was the Company Secretary/Legal Advisor of PETRONAS Gas Berhad, a Malaysian public-listed company. For the Dragon LNG Regasification Joint Venture Project in Milford Haven, Wales, UK he was the PETRONAS Legal Advisor and concurrently the PETRONAS nominee Director of Dragon LNG Ltd. He has also experience in international energy, oil, gas and petrochemical projects in Canada, Australia, Uzbekistan, Sudan, India, China,  Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia and other South-East Asian countries and advised on upstream oil and gas production sharing contracts and M&As, JOAs, drilling contracts, FPSO/FSO agreements, FLNG projects and abandonment & decommissioning in Malaysia and South-east Asia.

Recognising that the energy supply and demand system is transforming very rapidly in the context of climate change and the transition to new energy, he has a keen personal interest in energy management and transformation in Malaysia and has acquired knowledge and expertise in the new energy sectors –  regulatory framework, carbon credit, waste-to-energy, solar power, hydrogen and river hydropower, including the related power purchase agreements.
