Nadia Emira Sazahan graduated from University of Technology MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam with a LL.B (Hons) in 2017.

She recently completed her on-job-training under the 1Malaysian Training Scheme (SL1M) at the Legal & Regulatory Division of Lembaga Tabung Haji. Throughout the eleven months of her training, she was given the opportunity to join the legal managers in committee meetings, take part in reviewing contracts and research for matters related to Tabung Haji. She was also assisted legal officers in clerical and administration duties apart from miscellaneous works. Furthermore, she had chance to join the Operasi Haji Tanah Air (OHTA) which is an operation to assist the pilgrims for their preparation to Mecca/Medina and also emceed two events during the SL1M programme.  

She did her attachment at the Teluk Intan’s Magistrate Court in August 2015. During one month of her internship, she assisted the court officers with recording cases and miscellaneous works apart from observing the Magistrate’s duties and trial procedures.  

She is currently working closely with our Senior Partner, Dato’ Azmi Mohd Ali and with our En. Mohd Ashraf bin Ramli.

Intan Zarifah Latif

Intan Zarifah Latif

Intan Zarifah Latif graduated from Faculty of Law, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam with a LL.B (Hons) in 2019. She was attached to High Court of Alor Setar during her university days. She also attached to Magistrate Court of Alor Setar under observation of Senior Registrar, Puan Azah Binti Idris. During the tenure of the attachment, she has explored litigation work which mainly focused on criminal litigation. During final year of LL.B she was exposed to corporate law and practice taught by Amir Zhariff Abdullah. She was responsible for a number of corporate files during her final semester. She was assigned with drafting and reviewing agreements which include Limited Liability Partnership Agreements, Joint Venture Agreements and Loan Agreements. She was also exposed briefly to mergers and acquisition, corporate restructuring and initial public offering (IPO). She is familiar with ensuring regulatory compliance as she had the opportunity to oversee a few files that require compliance with statutory regulations such as the Private Healthcare Facilities & Services Act 1998 and Rules and Regulations of the Securities Commission.

Last but not least, she was an active participant in events organized by UiTM such as being a participant in Inter-Moot Competition during her foundation days (2013), a Program Director for Law Society UiTM for Annual Grand Meeting Event and also as the Head of Crowd Control Committee for UiTM Mock Trial. She is eager to explore and learn other areas of law and particularly interested in Banking and Finance, Project Finance, Mergers and Acquisitions, Joint Ventures, Corporate Restructuring, and Energy, Oil and Gas.

She is currently undergoing her pupilage and her master is our Partner Ms. Moo Eng Thing and will be working closely with our Senior Partner, Dato’ Azmi Mohd Ali and with our En Mohd Ashraf bin Ramli.

Farhah Hayati graduated from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) with Second Class Upper LL.B (Hons) in September 2002.

During her undergraduate studies, she also joined a programme in the Law Centre of Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws at IIUM and obtained a certificate in Company’s administration (“CICA”) in 2003.

After graduation, she was attached to Messrs. Azmi & Associates and was mainly exposed to corporate matters under the supervision of associates of the firm. She started her pupilage in October 2002 with Messrs. Hasnan Hamzah, whereby she was exposed to litigation matter under the supervision of En. Hasnan himself. Subsequently, in November 2002, she continued her term of pupilage with this Firm under the supervision of our Senior Partner, En. Azmi Mohd Ali, whereby she assisted in conducting corporate due diligence exercises for the purpose of submission to the Securities Commission and other various corporate works.

In addition, she also assisted in drafting and preparing the financing documents in Islamic Banking, registry works related to intellectual property protection specifically in trademarks registration, probate and administration in Islamic Law, drafting and preparing the agreements in relation to the acquisition of shares in public listed company, cross border transactions, opinions and also assisted in conducting researches for litigation matters, contracts, as well as corporate matters.

Dayang Roziekah Ussin graduated with a First Class Bachelor of Law LL.B (Hons) from the National University of Malaysia (UKM) in 2017.

She was the recipient of the prestigious Vice Chancellor Award of UKM 2017, Faculty of Law Alumni Award 2017, Anugerah Tokoh Siswa Sukarelawan UKM 2014 and a finalist of Anugerah Tokoh Siswa Kebangsaan 2014. All these were attributed to her consistent academic achievement in securing the Dean’s List Award whilst being a student leader in various legal and non-legal projects and programs throughout her university years.

Upon graduation, she joined the Firm as a pupil in which she was extensively exposed to both litigation and corporate practice areas, having assisted in numerous litigation matters and several corporate exercises.

She was called to the Malaysian Bar and admitted to the roll of Advocates and Solicitors on 3rd of August 2018. Thereafter, she has been assisting and heavily involved in a broad range of civil and general litigation matters including contractual and tort claims, land disputes, tax matters, estate and administration, and execution proceedings. On 1st of April 2021, she was promoted as Senior Associate 2.

Some of Dayang’s notable assignments to date include representing one of the subsidiaries of a Malaysian business conglomerate in a successful appeal before the Special Commissioners of Income Tax against an additional assessment of income tax and penalty imposed by the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia in the sum of more than RM8 million, and representing a wholly-owned subsidiary of a statutory body up to the Federal Court level in a successful application for the counterparty to deposit a sum of RM30 million into Court pending the final disposal of the court suit.

Mohammad Hazim graduated from University of Malaya with LL.B (Hons) in 2016.

Nur Amalena Binti Azan graduated from The University of Adelaide, South Australia with LL.B in 2014. She completed her Certificate in Legal Practice (“CLP”) in November 2016.

She has undergone an internship with PETRONAS Lubricants International Sdn. Bhd. (“PLISB”) (PLISB is the global lubricants manufacturing and marketing arm of PETRONAS, the national oil corporation of Malaysia) in June 2015 for 6 months. During the tenure of the internship, she has explored mainly in corporate work, where she was trained to write succinctly whilst carrying out research tasks and drafting letters. Mohammad Ashraf Mohamed Sopiee graduated from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) with LL.B (Hons) in 2016. He has finished his studies for LLB_S (Hons) in 2017 at the same university.

He has undergone Law Attachment Program in 2014 organized by Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Law (AIKOL), IIUM at the Magistrate Courts of Machang and Tanah Merah, which are situated in Kelantan, for a period of 3 months approximately, where he was exposed to various aspects and stages of Court’s procedures for both Civil and Criminal cases, in addition he also learnt about the administrative functions and social duties of the Court.

Apart from that, he was an active student, participating in the university’s and law faculty’s events, academic and non-academic, such as attending academic lectures delivered by prominent figures, legal and non-legal for instance, Professor Johan Galtung (2015) and Datuk Dr. Mohd. Sajati is a senior associate in the Mergers, Acquisitions and Corporate Practice Group and she advises clients on wide spectrum of corporate matters, with particular focus on mergers and acquisitions, compliance, governance, employment, ESG and renewable and green energy.

She joined Azmi & Associates in August 2015 as a pupil under the tutelage of Dato’ Azmi Mohd Ali, the Senior Partner of the Firm and was called to the Malaysian Bar and admitted to the roll of Advocates and Solicitors of the High Court of Malaya on 27 May 2016. She thereafter continued her practice with the Firm until the present time. She holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) (Hons.) (2015) from the University of Malaya. • Advised UMW Corporation Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of UMW Holdings Berhad, in the internal restructuring of its heavy equipment companies in Malaysia, Singapore, Myanmar and Papua New Guinea under a joint venture company incorporated in Malaysia and the disposal of minority shares in the said Malaysian joint venture company to Komatsu Ltd.

• Advised UMW Holdings Berhad in the proposed internal restructuring and disposal of its oil and gas companies and assets in Malaysia, Australia, China and Singapore.

• Advised Victaulic, a global company, in the corporate restructuring of its Malaysian subsidiary under a Belgian holding company in place of the existing Victaulic Lux holding structure.

• Advised QSR Brands (M) Holdings Berhad in its joint venture with Foodpanda with a view to establishing a halal-compliant food logistic service provider and outsourcing of KFC & Pizza Hut delivery business to Foodpanda in order to complement the existing delivery services of KFC and Pizza Hut restaurants.

• Advised a Qatar-based private equity company for its proposed acquisition of shares in a Malaysian holding company with a view to consequentially acquire private and international schools situated in the East and West Malaysia held through eight subsidiaries for USD50 million.

• Advised Duopharma Biotech Berhad in the acquisition of Preferred Stock amounting to USD5 million in AZTherapies Inc, a private, late-stage clinical biopharmaceutical company based in Boston, USA focusing on treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.

• Advised companies such as Sime Darby Berhad, UMW Holdings Berhad, selected joint ventures of UMW Holdings Berhad, Ranhill Holdings Berhad and Export-Import Bank of Malaysia Berhad on their compliance with the laws such as the Companies Act 2016, Main Market Listing Requirements, Development Financial Institutions Act 2002, Malaysian Code on Corporate Governance.

• Reviewed or prepared the constitution of various companies including Sime Darby Berhad, UMW Holdings Berhad and companies under UMW Group, PERODUA Group, Luminor Capital Group, Pelaburan Hartanah Berhad Group, Ranhill Holdings Berhad and Export-Import Bank of Malaysia Berhad.

• Assisted SA Puncak Management Sdn Bhd & El Nuwr Sdn Bhd in drafting and preparing its compliance policies including Anti-Bribery and Anti-Corruption Policy, Privacy Policy, internal policy on handling of personal data and Anti-Money Laundering Policy.

• Advised Malaysia Venture Capital Management Berhad and its Hong Kong partners in the setting up of an exempted limited partnership fund in the Cayman Islands, with a maximum fund size of USD600 million and targeted investments in the green technology and renewable energy sector.

• Advised Axiata Digital Innovation Fund Sdn Bhd in its additional investment in Katsana Holdings Sdn Bhd.

• Assisted Kumpulan Wang Persaraan (Diperbadankan) for its investment in a RM300 million private equity fund focused on investing in Shariah-based industries.

• Assisted Westfield Star Sdn Bhd in its disposal of a US-registered helicopter.

• Assisted Orpheus Capital Sdn Bhd, a startup financing company providing online financing to underserved and unserved segment of society including small and medium enterprises, to review its financing documents and terms and conditions and prepare its privacy policy.

• Assisted Securities Industry Development Corporation, the training and development arm of Securities Commission Malaysia, to update the chapter on Takeovers & Mergers for the Capital Markets Services Representative Licensee’s (CMSRL) training module.

• Assisted Malaysian Insurance Institute (MII), the leading professional body and education institution for the Malaysian insurance industry, in reviewing and updating its module on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 (MACC Act) including Section 17A to be in line with the MACC Act as well as incorporating industry-specific corruption scenarios.

• Advised a concessionaire in a concession agreement with the Government of Malaysia relating to its supply rights and liabilities under said agreement.

• Assisted a public listed company in relation to its proposed establishment of Group Employee Share Option Scheme (ESOS) valued approximately RM360 million.

• Assisted FWD Takaful Berhad in drafting an endowment agreement in relation to its endowment and collaboration with a private institution in Malaysia and on the potential structures of a fund proposed to be established by it.

• Advised Padiberas Nasional Berhad in the surrender of 12 leases in various states in Peninsular Malaysia and assisted in obtaining the replacement titles for leases without original title.
