Iman Danial Hakim Md Azam

Iman Danial graduated from the International Islamic University Malaysia with a double degree, namely the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) (Honours) and the Bachelor of Laws (Shari’ah) (Honours), and was called to the Bar in March 2023.

He is deeply passionate about Intellectual Property, and is particularly driven by the idea of protecting and defending creative ideas and innovations. As of April 2023, he leads the Intellectual Property Department of Hafiz Zubir & Co., where he oversees a broad range of IP matters including IP litigation, IP registration, IP commercialisation, anti-counterfeiting actions, and training on Intellectual Property.

He is a registered Trademark Agent with extensive experience assisting clients in securing trademark protection at MyIPO and IP offices worldwide, and has advised and acted in disputes relating to patents, copyright, trademarks, and industrial designs, as well as in the implementation of anti-counterfeiting measures for brand owners.

Iman has assisted in the conduct of several significant Intellectual Property litigation disputes which were subsequently reported in the Current Law Journal, including Airaz Technologies Sdn Bhd v. Padzilah binti Enda & Anor [2024] CLJU 595, Arkan Roma Trad Est lwn. Ripac Sdn Bhd & Yang Lain [2025] CLJU 975, Arkan Roma Trad Est lwn. In addition to his litigation experience, he regularly advises on and structures Intellectual Property aspects of corporate and commercial transactions.

Beyond his legal practice, Iman also writes. Drawing from real experiences in the legal industry and from conversations with clients, friends, and working adults, he authored a self-help book titled Jangan Ganggu Lepas Waktu Kerja, Boleh?, which reflects his interest in work-life balance, professional culture, and the human side of legal practice.

Ahmad Hafiz Zubir

Hafiz is the founding and principal partner of HZC since 2018, where he has established a respected specialist practice in intellectual property (IP), litigation, and dispute resolution. Hafiz has authored and contributed to several practitioner-focused publications, reinforcing his standing in the IP legal community. He is the author of “A Practical Guide on Trademark Registration in Malaysia”book, which was published in November 2025 by Sweet & Maxwell (Thomson Reuters) Malaysia.

He holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and a Master of Intellectual Property from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). He is currently pursuing a PhD, reflecting his strong commitment to thought leadership and the advancement of IP jurisprudence.

His experience covers a broad range of IP disputes, including copyright infringement involving creative works and design concepts; trademark disputes relating to misrepresentation, passing off, and brand ownership; patent infringement involving the unauthorised making, use, or commercialisation of protected inventions; and industrial design infringement concerning the replication of registered designs. He also regularly advises on disputes between former business partners, particularly where intellectual property assets are central to the conflict.

Hafiz works closely with enforcement authorities on IP infringement matters, including assisting the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) in raids and anti-counterfeiting enforcement. He has also handled numerous licensing, commercialisation, and royalty engagements with higher learning institutions and research bodies, including UKM, particularly in matters involving technology transfer and IP monetisation.

Beyond legal practice, Hafiz is actively involved in professional development and training. He is a certified trainer with the Human Resources Development Corporation and contributes to capability-building initiatives aimed at promoting awareness, understanding, and responsible use of intellectual property across industries.

Hadi is an accomplished civil and commercial litigator with robust experience across all levels of the Malaysian judiciary.

Prior to joining Azmi & Associates, Hadi served as a Partner at Messrs. Steven Thiru, bringing with him a highly regarded litigation pedigree and a strong track record in high-value, complex disputes.

Hadi holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), and was admitted to the Malaysian Bar in June 2009.

Over the course of more than 17 years in practice, he has developed deep litigation experience spanning contractual and commercial disputes, negligence and tort claims, land and property matters, administrative and public law including judicial review proceedings, employment and industrial relations disputes, as well as construction and infrastructure-related litigation. He has consistently demonstrated courtroom credibility, having appeared regularly before the High Court and the appellate courts, including in a number of reported and precedent-setting matters. His advocacy style combines technical precision, sound judgment, and disciplined litigation execution.

Hadi began his legal career with Messrs. Shook Lin & Bok, where he completed his chambering in 2008 and was subsequently retained as an Associate following his admission to the Bar. Jeremy Pang obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Law (Honours) from the University of Malaya (UM) in 2022.

During his undergraduate studies, Jeremy was actively involved in numerous co-curricular activities. Amongst others, he served as a Student Advisor at the UM Legal Aid Clinic, a pro bono initiative offering legal advice to members of the public. In 2019, he had the distinct privilege of representing the Faculty of Law, University of Malaya in a student exchange programme at the Southwest University of Political Science and Law (SWUPL) in China. • Assisted with the advisory and drafting of the sale & purchase agreement for the divestment of Perling Mall and its adjacent land in Johor Bahru for approximately RM93 million.
• Assisted with the advisory to a prominent property developer on the proposed joint development of Malay Reserve Lands in Kuala Lumpur.
• Assisted in providing legal advisory services to a leading property developer in Malaysia on the gazettement of land as a green lung.
• Assisted in the preparation and review of the tenancy agreements for Pelaburan Hartanah Berhad in relation to the tenancies at Nu Sentral, Nu Empire and PJ33.
• Managed applications for EPU and ELB approvals and assisted in general conveyancing works.

Projects & Infrastructure
• Assisted with the advisory and drafting of the transaction documents in connection with the redevelopment of the Shah Alam Sports Complex.

Corporate & Commercial
• Conducted legal due diligence in relation to a public listed infrastructure company’s proposed majority stake participation in a hydropower dam project located in Tenom, Sabah.
• Assisted with the advisory on the proposed acquisition of shares in a Malaysian company by a leading global financial services provider headquartered in the United Arab Emirates.
• Assisted with the advisory in relation to a selective capital reduction exercise via the court confirmation procedure pursuant to Section 116 of Companies Act 2016.
• Assisted with the advisory on the amendment of the deed for an unlisted real estate investment trust including drafting of the supplemental deed and lodgement of the relevant filings with the Securities Commission.

Mining & Natural Resources
• Conducted legal due diligence and provided advisory to a mining company in respect of the rare earth elements exploration in the state of Kedah.
• Assisted with the advisory on the gas purchase and transportation supply chain in Malaysia for a biomass company owned by Towngas, one of the largest energy suppliers in Hong Kong.

Hamzah Khatri graduated from University of Kent with an LL.B (Hons) in 2023. Subsequently, he completed the Bar Practice Course at University of Law, Birmingham and was called to the Bar of England and Wales in July 2024 at Lincoln’s Inn.

Upon returning to Malaysia, Hamzah joined Messrs Ahmad Fuad Abi & Aidil in August 2024 to undertake his pupillage under the supervision of Mr. Aidil Khalid, where he gained valuable experience in litigation across various practice areas. Zarriff Iman Nafidz  is a First Class LL.B (Hons) graduate from Universiti Utara Malaysia, concluding his studies in August 2025.

Zarriff has previously undergone internships with Messrs. Mohd Hapiz Rajali & Co in March 2023. During his internship stint there, he received firsthand exposure to criminal litigation and Sharia family matters and honed his drafting skills there. It was during his tenure there that he received direct exposure to work with Yayasan Bantuan Guaman Kebangsaan (YBGK), which deeply shaped his perspective on the impact of law towards society as a whole.

Later the same year in September 2023, he interned with the Alor Setar High Court where he was exposed to the procedures of both the High Court and the Subordinate Courts in action, spanning various areas of law from civil and criminal procedure to family law and even bankruptcy law. Following this internship tenure, he underwent another internship at Kedah State Legal Advisor’s Office between August and October 2024 where he was exposed to the process of bill drafting, civil litigation and criminal litigation by state counsels and Deputy Public Prosecutors. This unique mix of experience grants him a unique perspective into the legal process from multiple perspectives.

Throughout his studies, Zarriff has demonstrated all-around excellence as an active student and student leader, renowned for his selflessness in helping others academically. He served as the Secretary for the UUM Law Students’ Society for the 2023-24 tenure where he was directly involved in letter and document management for all Society programmes. He also concurrently served as Head Secretariat to the Student Representative Council (MPP) of the School of Law from 2023 to 2025, where he played a pivotal role in helping uphold students’ academic welfare, such as ensuring accessibility of class electives and examination timetable amendments. Demonstrating his versatility, he also served as a former Academic & Training Exco for his residential college of Inapan Siswa Petronas and was involved as the head of his college’s academic bureau for of Minggu Suai Kenal, UUM’s freshman orientation for two consecutive years (2022 and 2023). In addition, he showcased his batch’s trust as he was voted in as the batch leader for his intake, responsible for overseeing his peers’ academic welfare and serving in this position throughout the entirety of his studies.

In addition, he has also represented both his alma mater and Malaysia at the highest level, as he was a counsel for the UUM team that qualified for the Asia-Pacific oral round of the IISL Manfred Lachs Space Moot Court Competition 2024 in Tokyo, Japan as Malaysia’s only representatives. Raja Azfar graduated from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) with LL.B (Hons) in 2024 and LL.B (Shariah) (Hons) in 2025 with CGPA: 3.45.

He was honoured as one of the Top 25 AIKOL Graduates of his cohort for his academic excellence. He previously served as a Deputy Public Prosecutor at the Attorney General’s Chambers, where he personally conducted an average of 60 criminal cases daily at the Klang Court. His prosecutorial work encompassed trial hearings, mention proceedings, and fresh charge matters, which involved a wide range of criminal offences including offences under the Penal Code, Dangerous Drugs Act, Immigration Act and Road Transport Act. He was also a paralegal at several law firms and had gained multiple experiences in litigation, corporate and conveyancing work.

During his studies, he actively participated in mooting competitions and was crowned as the Champion of Ahmad Ibrahim Advocacy Competition 2021 (Client Consultation Category), the Champion of KPUM Mentorship 2024 (Report Category) and the Second Runner-Up of Novice Arbitration Mooting Competition 2023. Driven by his passion for volunteerism, he held the position of Vice President of IIUM Titian Wahyu Club and served as an Ambassador for Institut Onn Ja’afar.

• Public Prosecutor v Sivakumar A/L Raman – Obtained a conviction against the accused under Section 323 of Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt with the sentence of six months imprisonment.

• Public Prosecutor v Yusni Bin Mohamed Yusuf – Appealed against the decision of the Magistrate Court, which imposed a Mandatory Attendance Order on the accused for offences under Section 39A of the Dangerous Drugs Act.

Joannes Ngumbang graduated from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) with a First Class LL.B (Hons) in 2024.

He worked as a Legal Officer in a public-listed company and its group of companies, where he was involved in, among other matters, vetting and drafting agreements, overseeing the company’s trademark portfolio, and serving as Secretary of the company’s Audit and Risk Committee meetings. He also completed an internship with the Sibu Municipal Council under the supervision of its Legal Officer.

During his studies, he was an active student, serving as the Batch Representative for the October 2020 intake where he acted as a liaison between students and the Faculty. He was also a Committee Member of the Asian Law Students’ Association UiTM Local Chapter (ALSA UiTM), including serving as its President for a term. In addition, he was a trainee and the Head of the Research, Education, and Innovation Committee of the UiTM Law Legal Aid Clinic (LAC), where he facilitated and led the committee in organising several community-based events to enhance public access to justice, while also providing support to the consultants at LAC.

Lavannya graduated from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) with an LL.B (Hons) (Second Class Upper) in 2025. Her legal exposure spans both private practice and public service. In 2023, she interned at Rahmat Lim & Partners, where she gained experience across the Civil Litigation and Corporate, mainly working on Competition & Personal Data Protection matters. There, she contributed to firm’s internal newsletter on PDPA enforcement trends, and assisted in active litigation matters.

In 2024, she completed a 10-week internship at the Attorney General’s Chambers (Negeri Sembilan), working on Prosecution, Civil Litigation, Advisory, and Law Reform matters. Her research and drafting work were incorporated into a pending civil trial and a state legislative amendment project. Beyond her internships, Lavannya served as a Research Assistant to the Criminal Law Reform Committee (CLRC) under the guidance of Prof. Ramalinggam A/L Rajamanickam at UKM, contributing to a comparative study on the roles of Public Prosecutors and Attorneys General across jurisdictions. Chean Hong graduated from the University of Reading, United Kingdom, with an LLB (Hons) in 2016 and subsequently completed the Bar Professional Training Course at BPP University, Manchester in 2017.

Chean Hong commenced his pupillage at Azmi & Associates. Upon being called to the Malaysian Bar in 2018, he was retained as a Legal Associate in the firm’s Dispute Resolution practice, where he was exposed to a wide range of civil and commercial dispute matters.

In 2022, he joined Messrs Belden to specialise in construction practice, where he developed his expertise in handling construction and engineering disputes, and representing clients in court, arbitration, and adjudication proceedings under the Construction Industry Payment and Adjudication Act 2012 (CIPAA).

He returned to Azmi & Associates in 2025 as a Partner. His primary area of practice is commercial dispute resolution, with a particular focus on construction, engineering, oil & gas, and infrastructure-related disputes. Over the course of his career, he has acted for employers, main contractors and subcontractors in all levels of court, domestic and international arbitration and statutory adjudication under CIPAA.

He also regularly advises clients on contract administration, project risk management, claims strategy, and dispute avoidance in construction and infrastructure projects.

Some of the notable matters he has been involved in include:

• Acted for a main contractor in a PAM-administered arbitration and successfully obtaining an award exceeding RM10 million arising from the construction and completion of a mixed development, involving disputes over uncertified sums, variation orders, delays, LADs, loss and expense, defects, and GST.
• Acted for a main contractor in an AIAC administered Arbitration involving disputes arising out of a contract for the construction of an elevated expressway.
• Acted for a main contractor in a CIPAA adjudication involving claims exceeding RM200 million in respect of the construction of an elevated expressway.
• Acted for a main contractor in a successful CIPAA adjudication to recover unpaid sums for work done in the construction of a high-end car showroom. Successfully defeated the opposing party’s LAD claim and backcharges for alleged defects.
• Acted for the employer in a contract for the repairing of a wharf and successfully defended an adjudication claim brought by the contractor for the alleged unpaid variation orders, idling costs and claims for loss and expense.
• Successfully defended a RM74 million loss of profit claim in the High Court arising from the alleged wrongful termination of a Build-Operate-Transfer contract for a university hostel in Terengganu.
• Providing contract and claims advisory to local and foreign contractors in connection with infrastructure projects including expressways, power plants, and mixed developments
