Gabrielle Lim Wai Yee

Gabrielle Lim Wai Yee graduated from the University of Leeds with Second Class (Upper Division) LL. B (Hons) in 2020. She was admitted to the Bar of England and Wales in 2021 and also completed her LL.M in Legal Practice with Merit from BPP University in 2022.

She researched the challenges faced by legal practitioners in the UK in establishing and defending drug cases when relying on the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.

She has undergone an internship with Adnan, Sundra and Low in 2019 where she gained experience and knowledge in banking and finance law. She was assigned to assist an associate in the due diligence process for the client. During the pandemic, she participated in a virtual student experience provided by the Chartered Institute of Arbitration in 2021 where she was tasked to prepare arbitration clauses and notes for client advising. Besides, she also participated in the Law and Advocacy Virtual Experience provided by the Capital Punishment Justice Project in 2022 where she was tasked to prepare a speech advocating for the need for a total abolishment of capital punishment as well as drafting a newsletter regarding the effectiveness of the mutual assistant agreement between Australia and Japan.

She dedicated her time in university participating in various events. She participated in the Novice Arbitration Moot Competition (2019) and Taylor’s Inaugural Moot Competition (2019). She was also an active member of the Asian Law Student Association (ALSA) of Taylor’s University. She was the Sponsorship Director for ALSA Taylor’s between 2017 to 2018 when she sought sponsorships for the ALSA National Legal Training Workshop 2018. Later, she was the President of ALSA Taylor’s between 2018 and 2019 and she led her team in hosting the ALSA National Conference 2019. Additionally, she was a volunteer tutor for refugee children during the weekend with Taylor’s Leo Club. She was also an active member of the Malaysian and Singaporean Society of the University of Leeds where she participated in the MASSOC Games as a netball player.

Ling Shin Ying graduated from Cardiff University in 2020 with an LL.B (Hons), class two, division one (2:1) and completed the Bar Training Course (Middle Temple) as well as LLM in 2021 from the same university.

During her degree days, she joined a pro bono scheme that was organized by Cardiff University and Hugh James, one of the biggest law firms in Cardiff.

She was an active student who participated various activities in her school days, such as being a guest speaker for school career week (2021), interviewer for The Times (2020) and mentor in Sunway A-Levels Student Council (2016). She was also active in volunteering work and was an AIESEC global volunteer.

Muhammad Syafiq Suhaimi graduated from Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) with a LL.B and Shariah (Hons), First Class in 2018.

He has worked as a Legal Executive in MISC Berhad, a leading international shipping and logistic company, now with a market capitalization of RM31.5 Billion, since 2018 wherein he has been exposed to multiple legal tasks including drafting and reviewing service agreements with clients and contractors, acted as legal representative for procurement and tendering process, compliance services include anti-bribery management, corporate secretarial and marine insurance-related matters. Prior to serving this company, he involved in a legislations’ translation project on contract basis at LexisNexis. He has undergone an internship with Risma & Idris in 2017 where he had the opportunity to get hands-on experience in drafting Sale and Purchase Agreements and other related conveyancing matters.

He was an active student during undergraduate studies. He was the recipient of the Royal Education Award (Medal of Excellence) in USIM’s 16th Convocation ceremony. Among his notable achievements were participation in International Universities Arabic Debating Championship in Doha and ASEAN Arabic Debating Championship. He also represented USIM in Harun M. Hashim National Client Consultation Competition in 2016. In addition, he actively participated as volunteer in various voluntary programmes organized by USIM to Indonesia, Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand. He was also the USIM debating club president and Academic Exco for faculty’s student secretariat.

Marina Tiwol graduated from Universiti Tekn ologi Mara (UiTM) with a Second Class (Upper Division) LL.B (Hons) in 2021.

She was attached to Mahkamah Tinggi Shah Alam in January 2020 as a legal intern, in which she was exposed to managing the relevant cause papers and documents filed by litigants as well as having the opportunities in closely observing civil and criminal hearings and trials conducted by the Registrars and Judges. During her final year, she completed the 10 sessions of “Anatomy of Advanced Civil Practice Protocol & Advocacy”, a special 30 hours course conducted by YM Dato’ Raja Ahmad Mohzanuddin Shah. This course had developed her interest in civil litigation.

Aside from academic activities, she was actively involved with the International Law Club in UiTM, being the secretary and was also given the opportunity to organise several events that trained her to work with people from different backgrounds and industries. She had also represented her Faculty in several mooting competitions such as LawAsia International Mooting Competition (2020) and Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Competition (2018).

She is currently part of the Litigation & Arbitration Practice Group under the supervision of YM Adjunct Professor Raja Dato’ Ahmad Mohzanuddin Shah Raja Mohzan, our Co-Deputy Managing Partner cum Head of Litigation & Arbitration Practice Group (Team 2).

Nur ‘Aina Muhammad Ismail Tadj graduated from International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) (First Class) and Bachelor of Laws and Shariah (Honours) in 2019 and 2020 respectively.

She recently completed her Syariah chambering in Muhammad Syarafi and Partners where she involved in the legal drafting, legal documentation and legal research for the Shariah cases and seminars involving the firm as one of the panelist. She has undergone an internship with Court’s Complex Temerloh. During the tenure of her internship, she has explored mainly litigation work.

During her study, she obtained several awards for her academic performance including the Ahmad Ibrahim Kuliyyah of Laws Dean’s List Certificate for several semesters of her studies. She was also awarded the Best Student in Islamic Banking Law and was named in the Rector’s List during the 35th IIUM Convocation 2019.

She also attended an Arabic language course at the Markaz Nile, Cairo, Egypt for three months in 2019. In 2017, she was selected to participate in a student exchange program in Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakif University, Turkey. She received Certificate of Excellence for both courses she attended.

Hazwani Kamaluddin

Hazwani Kamaluddin graduated from University of Malaya with a LL.B (Hons) in 2021.

During her undergraduate years, she spent three months as a legal intern at Messr. Zainy & Partners (Jerantut Branch) in July 2020. During her legal attachment, she has explored mainly in conveyancing and banking litigation. She found her work, from preparing the sale and purchase agreement to documenting the discharge of charge. She was trained to draft letters and cause papers throughout the attachment. She was also attached at the Wangsa Maju District Police Headquarters for two weeks in January 2020. She was exposed to the criminal procedures applied within the police organization.

She was an active student participating in events organized by UM as well as others, such as being a delegate in E-Student Exchange Programme (2020) and a sponsorship committee in LexGala Faculty of Law (2018). Furthermore, she loves participating for voluntary work and she was a tutor at the Pusat Tuisyen Pintar Ilmu (2019). She was also a sport volunteer for 29th SEA Games (Kuala Lumpur 2017).

Huzaifah Hibatur Rahman graduated from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) with a Second Class (Upper Divison) LL.B (Hons) in 2020.

He worked as Special Officer to the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Industries where he was tasked to act as Liaison Officer and maintain strong relationships with government ministries, lawmakers and other stakeholders in Parliament. In a span of one year, he has been involved with numerous meetings with international stakeholders such as the British High Commission in Malaysia, Ambassador of Iran and Palestine and many more to ensure our Government’s continuous commitment towards a more sustainable and resilient development especially in the East Coast of Malaysia.

He has undergone an internship programme with Asian International Arbitration Centre in 2018 during his university days. During his tenure of internship, he has explored mainly in Arbitration and other methods of Alternative Dispute Resolution. Alfred Tan Hsiong Vei graduated from University of Leeds with a LL.B (Hons) and was accredited with his Certificate in Legal Practice in 2021.

He was attached to the real estate department of Adnan Sundra & Low as an attachment student during his university days. During his tenure as an attachment student there, he has explored mainly on conveyancing, data entry and research work. Furthermore, in 2021, he also completed an internship with Quality Oracle Sdn Bhd, a firm that specializes in Intellectual Property matters. Throughout his internship with the firm, he was given the opportunity to gain a holistic understanding regarding the various types of Intellectual Property matters.

He was active student participating in various events organized by the law faculty during his university days. He is an active pro bono volunteer and was involved with several pro bono events in university. An example of his pro bono participations is Streetlaw Homeless at Groundswell Homeless Center in London in which he was responsible for giving a speech (under the supervision of a legal practitioner) and advice homeless people on their rights as a homeless person in the UK.
