Ahmad Iqbal Rohaizan

Ahmad Iqbal graduated from International Islamic University Malaysia with a First Class in Bachelor of Laws (LLB (Hons)) in 2022. Up until recently, he had just graduated from International Islamic University Malaysia, with a First Class in Bachelor of Laws (Shariah) (LLB(S) (Hons)) in 2023.

He was previously attached to Messrs Sofiah Ariffin & Nor Asma, in his hometown of Alor Setar, Kedah, back in July 2021. During his attachment days, he has experienced several litigations works, ranging from preparation of cause papers, drafting opinions and letters, as well as conducting legal research. He was also involved in conveyancing matters, with trainings on preparation of the legal documents.

He was an active student back in his varsity day. He engaged in IIUM Moots and Client Consultation Club, serving as a board member for two tenures. As an oralist he had partaken in numerous mooting competitions, ranging from international commercial arbitration, like Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot and constitutional litigation, such as KL Bar e-Moot Court Competition 2020. He had also acted as student coach for several competitions. Apart from mooting experiences, he had served as a committee member of the Welfare & Spirituality Secretariat of IIUM Law Student Society, and volunteered in edutainment programme for aborigines, organized by Titian Asli Club.

He was called to the Malaysian Bar and admitted to the roll of Advocates and Solicitors in July 2024. He is currently part of our Litigation & Arbitration Practice Group under the supervision of our Partner, Mohd Wafiy Azman.

Nur Syahidah Athirah graduated from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) with LL.B (Hons) in 2022 and graduated from the same with LL.B (Shariah) (Hons) in 2023. She completed both with First Class degrees. She was also the award recipient for Best Student in Evidence subject.

Before commencing her pupillage, she has undergone the attachment programme in the Commercial Litigation Department at Hisham Sobri & Kadir during her university days. During her attachment, she had the opportunity to assist the litigation practice group with drafting cause papers, conducting legal researches and producing several write-ups where she was exposed to commercial litigation such as cases involving capital reduction and company winding up.

She was an active student engaging in several leadership roles organized by IIUM such as being the Vice Secretary of the Muslim Youth Legal Interest Group (MYLIG) which is a subsidiary of the Law Students Society of IIUM Law Faculty. The group mainly organised programmes focused to facilitate IIUM law students to be exposed to legal practice.  She was also the Head of Bureau of Sports, Arts and Sustainability Club of the Law Students Society IIUM. She actively volunteered for event involving refugees such as the Rohingya children refugees where she acted in the capacity of the Program Coordinator in coordinating and overseeing the programme.

She was called to the Malaysian Bar and admitted to the roll of Advocates and Solicitors in June 2024. She is currently attached to the Financial Services Practice Group under the supervision of our Managing Partner, Ahmad Lutfi Abdull Mutalip.

Abdul Karim Ariez Mohd Nur Harris

Karim Ariez graduated from Universiti Malaya with an LL.B (Hons) in 2022.

He underwent an internship with PETRONAS under Group Legal, in the Legal Downstream Department, and was placed in the Legal Pengerang Integrated Complex division in August 2021. He was later a paralegal at Mohanadass Partnership in February 2023. During his study years, he held the position of Head of the Faculty Achievements Bureau of UM Law Review – a student-run legal publication body – where he was tasked with interviewing, writing, and editing articles on the achievements of faculty members and alumni. In addition, he was also the founder and secretary of ECOLAWGY UM, where he helped organise environment-related programs inside and outside of the faculty.

• Advising an investment management company on a joint venture between two of its affiliated listed companies for the purpose of purchasing land, which involves the preparation of a shareholders’ agreement and other ancillary documents, in addition to various advisory services.
• Advising a local listed plantation company in the preparation of share sale agreements for the disposal of shares in oil-palm management companies in Malaysia.
• Advising a local listed plantation company in the preparation of a sale and purchase agreement for the disposal of land in Malaysia.
• Advised a US public listed company seeking to participate in oil and gas activities in Malaysia, which included advising on the potential structure for the local entity, drafting of formation agreements such as the JVSHA and other ancillary agreements, and incorporation of a local entity.
• Advised a listed private investment company on the disposal of office units, which involves the preparation of sale and purchase agreements and an EGM circular, in addition to various advisory services.
• Advised a Sarawak-based shipping company and assisted them in the preparation of transactional agreements and other ancillary documents for the acquisition of tugboats valued at RM47 million.
• Advised Amphenol Corporation and assisted with the due diligence on the Malaysian subsidiary of Connor Manufacturing Services.

• Advised PETRONAS on compliance with Bursa’s Best Practices for Shariah Investing on an investment management agreement.

Raja Muhamad Zulqarnain obtained his LL.B Hons from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM). He commenced his pupillage in 2020 and was called to the Malaysian Bar in 2021. Back in his alma mater, he was elected President of the Moot Club and participated in various mooting competitions himself. He is now serving his second year of practice, with his main practice area being civil litigation. 

To date, he has been entrusted to:

• advise and represent clients in a variety of highly contentious civil and commercial disputes;   

• orally submit in numerous occasions up to the Court of Appeal;

• conduct review exercises on documents including employment contracts, partnership agreements and service level agreements; and

Zulqarnain had represented clients in various disputes up to the Federal Court. These disputes include, among others, recovery of loan facilities, injunction against a receiver & manager and a debenture-holder, trademark infringements, wrongful termination of service level agreements, pre-action discovery of confidential documents, judicial review of a statutory body’s decision, and breach of an independent verification & validation agreement.

Ammera graduated from Universiti Teknologi MARA with an LL.B Hons in 2017 and was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 2018.

She began her legal career at Messrs. Tan Norizan & Associates, where she completed her pupillage and was retained as a legal associate.

In 2023, she joined Azmi & Associates, where she continues to contribute to the firm’s litigation and dispute resolution practice.

Ammera has a vast experience in civil litigation, with a practice encompassing a wide range of disputes, including contractual, commercial and tortious matters. She has acted for various clients—including government agencies, private corporations, and individuals—and is experienced in representing clients in matters involving intellectual property disputes, defamation, adjudications under the Construction Industry Payment and Adjudication (CIPA) Act 2012 and land acquisitions.

Her notable work includes representing clients in cases involving ex parte Mareva injunctions, striking out multi-million ringgit claims against statutory bodies, resisting applications for mandatory injunctions, and defending claims on personal guarantees and allegations of fraud. She has appeared at all levels of the Malaysian courts and regularly assists in complex and high-value litigation.

In addition to her legal practice, Ammera has published articles on various topics including constructive dismissal, unfair contract terms, and adjudication under CIPA Act 2012, featured both in firm newsletters and on professional platforms like LinkedIn.

Ammera is actively involved in the Malaysian Bar and Kuala Lumpur Bar. She currently serves as a committee member of the Malaysian Bar’s Women’s Rights Committee and the National Young Lawyers and Pupils Committee. At the Kuala Lumpur Bar, she sits on the Professional Development, Civil Practice and Court Liaison as well as the Gender Equality and Diversity Committees. She has previously served in similar roles at the Selangor Bar.

Ammera has also contributed to legal awareness and capacity-building initiatives. She was a speaker at the “Dealing with Sexual Harassment in the Legal Field” talk for Brickfields Asia College students organized by the non-government organization (NGO) UPLIFT, and has moderated and emceed sessions including for the Young Lawyers Forum 2025, the Women Empowerment Talk, the Women’s Rights Conference 2024 both organized by the Malaysian Bar’s Women’s Rights Committee and the UM Law Conference 2024 for the University of Malaya.

Outside of her professional commitments, Ammera dedicates time to community work. IZZAT ZAMRI commenced his practice at Kadir Andri & Partners in 2012. He joined Azmi & Associates as a partner in August 2023. Prior to joining Azmi & Associates, he was a partner at established legal firms in Selangor. Passionate about dispute resolution, Izzat is also a mediator accredited by the Malaysian International Mediation Centre (MIMC) and a lecturer at the Faculty of Law, UiTM Malaysia teaching Civil Trial and Advocacy. 

Izzat’s area of practice is dispute resolution and his focused area is civil and commercial disputes covering contractual and tortious claims, judicial review, complex land disputes, defamation as well as intellectual property.

During his varsity life, he was an active student participating events organized by IIUM and others. Nik Amalia Suraya Nik Muhammad Saifuddin graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) in 2022 from the International Islamic University Malaysia and was admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in September 2023.

In 2022, she joined Azmi & Associates as a Trainee Solicitor for her pupillage where she assisted in numerous litigation matters and made significant contributions that resulted in favorable outcomes for her clients including obtaining an Order for Recognition and Enforcement of an Arbitral Award following the dismissal of a Setting Aside application by the counterparty, as well as obtaining a judgment in favor of a taxpayer in a tax appeal before the Special Commissioners of Income Tax (SCIT) for the alleged non-deductible expenses in the sum of RM850,000.00.

Siti Basira graduated from Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) with a First Class LL.B (Hons) in 2020.

She was often on the Dean’s List throughout her studies and was honoured with the Best Student Award in Civil Procedure. She also received the prestigious Rector’s List Award during her convocation ceremony. Excelling in her studies, she balanced her academic achievements with active participation in co-curricular activities and treasured quality time with family and friends.

She was an active student participating in various voluntary community works and organised several impactful events with I Can Malaysia IIUM and Inspire Club IIUM.

She was called to the Malaysian Bar and admitted to the roll of Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in March 2021, after completing her pupillage at Messrs Syariman Othman & Co. in Alor Setar. During her pupillage, she gained exposure to litigious matters and was entrusted with preparing written submissions, including for an appeal at the Court of Appeal.

In August 2021, Basira began her legal practice as an associate with Messrs Ezrilaw Firm, focusing on corporate banking matters such as drafting and reviewing security documents. Her responsibilities extended to reviewing secretarial matters for compliance with the Companies Act 2016 and advising financial institutions on various legal issues. She worked closely with a diverse range of corporate entities, including SMEs and cooperatives, and gained significant experience in Islamic finance, retail, and land-related matters. Basira also actively participated in client meetings.

Basira joined Azmi & Associates’ Penang Office in November 2022. She was promoted to Managing Associate on 1 April 2024 and subsequently to Senior Associate 2 on 1 October 2024.

She has been instrumental in maintaining and strengthening the Penang office’s operations.
