Upcoming Publication: The Law and Practice of International Trade and Shipping by Philip Teoh

Azmi & Associates is pleased to share that our Partner and Head of Shipping, Philip Teoh, is completing his upcoming book entitled “The Law and Practice of International Trade and Shipping“, to be published by Sweet & Maxwell later this year.⁣

Marking 35 years in legal practice in March 2025, Philip brings decades of experience into this comprehensive text, which comprises 17 chapters on key topics in international trade and shipping law. The book provides in-depth analysis of common law and some civil law, with comparative perspectives across multiple jurisdictions, including the United States. It offers practical insights drawn from real cases in Singapore and Malaysia, and addresses pressing global developments such as the Pandemic disruptions, the Ukraine conflict, and the emerging “Trump Trade War 2.0.”⁣

Philip is a recognised author of several practitioner texts, which have been cited in court decisions and widely used by members of the legal profession in Malaysia, particularly for their sample precedents and applied commentary.⁣

This forthcoming publication will serve as a valuable resource for both experienced legal practitioners and those new to the area of maritime and international trade law. It is also expected to be of relevance to non-legal professionals engaged in the shipping and trade sectors. ⁣

The law and practice of shipping law have always been closely entwined. There can surely be no other branch of commerce where the practical people know, and need to know, so much of the law; and where professionals know, and need to know, so much of the practice.” – Lord Mustill⁣

The book’s chapters cover a wide range of topics, including:⁣

1. International Trade⁣
2. World Trade Organization and Trade Remedies⁣
3. Sanctions⁣
4. Trade Finance⁣
5. International Sales⁣
