Haikal Suhaimi graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons.) from International Islamic University Malaysia in 2021. He was then called to the Malaysian Bar and was admitted to the role of Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in August 2022.

Haikal began his legal journey by joining Messrs Zain Megat & Murad as a Pupil-in-Chambers and where he was attached to the Construction Dispute Resolution department. He assisted in numerous high-complexity construction disputes including adjudication proceeding, arbitration disputes as well as post-adjudication litigation.

His notable assignments include successfully resisting a claim made pursuant to Section 30 of the Construction Industry Payment and Adjudication Act 2012 (CIPAA) and significantly reducing a claim of RM26 million brought by a renowned public listed construction company against a corporation owned by the Ministry of Federal Territories in an adjudication proceeding.

In his current role in Azmi & Associates, Haikal is involved in various commercial and banking litigation disputes focusing mainly on contractual disputes, investment disputes, insolvency matters and debt recovery. Among his notable assignments are:

• Assisting and successfully acted for a company owned by the Ministry of Finance in a claim of RM46 million against several high-profile individuals (https://theedgemalaysia.com/node/654279)

• successfully resisting the appeal against the RM46 million claim allowed by the High Court at the Court of Appeal (https://theedgemalaysia.com/node/654279).

• Successfully reversing a Sessions’ Court Decision that refused to grant a stay of proceeding pursuant to section 10 of the Arbitration Act 2005 on appeal at the High Court, allowing referral to arbitration for a claim brought by one of the Big Four accounting firms.

• Assisting in trial preparation related to the recovery of misused funds for an international company based in the United States under an Escrow Agreement for consideration of performance of a Sale and Purchase Agreement.

• Acting as counsel and maintaining a mandate given by a government agency under the control of the Ministry of Finance for recovery actions against companies and individuals who are in breach of their statutory duties.

Haikal joined the Firm as an Associate in September 2022 and was later promoted to the position of Managing Associate in October 2024. He is part of the Firm’s Litigation & Arbitration Practice Group (6) and is based in our Johor Bahru Office under the supervision of our Partner, Mohd Wafiy Azman.
