Abdul Karim Ariez graduated from Universiti Malaya with a LL.B (Hons) in 2022.
He had the opportunity to undergo an internship with PETRONAS under Group Legal, in Legal Downstream Department and was placed in the Legal Pengerang Integrated Complex division in August 2021. Throughout the internship period, he had the opportunity to assist his supervisor in drafting and reviewing agreements between external parties and subsidiaries, took responsibility for the classification of hundreds of agreements transitioning to LIBOR interest rate, and conducted substantial research on company and criminal law. He was also a paralegal at Mohanadass Partnership in February 2023 where he helped prepare cause papers, assisted the partners in trial and hearing preparation, and conducted substantial research on construction and employment law.
Karim was an active student in both academics and extra-curricular activities. In his second year of studies, he held the position of Head of the Faculty Achievements bureau of UM Law Review – a student-run legal publication body – where he was tasked to interview, write, and edit articles on the achievements of Faculty members and alumni. In addition, he was also the founder and secretary of ECOLAWGY UM where he helped organised environment-related programs inside and outside of the Faculty.
Karim was also an active volunteer outside the varsity, having volunteered with Rumah Kita, which provides temporary housing, nourishment, pre- and post-natal care for young women, and also taught in the Chin Student Organisation, a school for the Chin community.
His field of interest is in Corporate and Commercial Law. He intends to strengthen his knowledge on these matters and continue to venture into the realms of corporate practice in the future.
