With 36 years of legal experience, Rueben has established a distinguished practice advising and representing clients in complex and high-value disputes.⁣⁣

His experience spans a wide range of contentious matters, including commercial and civil litigation, contractual disputes, tort and negligence, bankruptcy and winding-up proceedings, arbitration, defamation, employment disputes, landlord and tenant matters, insurance, debt recovery and construction disputes.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Throughout his career, Rueben has acted for major corporations, regulatory authorities, organisations, and individuals before the Malaysian courts. He has also acted as Counsel and Co-Counsel in significant arbitration-related proceedings and has served as an Arbitrator and Adjudicator. His extensive experience in defamation and media law includes representing prominent individuals, corporations, and organisations in libel matters, as well as defending major Malaysian media organisations in defamation proceedings.⁣⁣

Rueben began his legal career in 1990 and has held senior positions at several leading Malaysian law firms, established and led his own practice, and most recently served as a Senior Partner.⁣

He holds an LL.B (Hons) from the University of Kent at Canterbury (1987) and an LL.M from the University of Malaya (2002). He was called to the Bar of England and Wales (Lincoln’s Inn) in 1989 and admitted in 1990 as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya, as well as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory and the High Court of Australia.⁣⁣

Rueben is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb.) and the Malaysian Institute of Arbitrators (FMIArb.). He also holds a Diploma in International Commercial Arbitration and a Certificate in Adjudication. In 2010, he was appointed a Notary Public by the Attorney General of Malaysia.⁣⁣

He is also a co-author of the 3rd Edition of Evans on Defamation in Singapore and Malaysia, published by LexisNexis, reflecting his longstanding expertise and contribution to the field of defamation law.⁣⁣
