Azmi & Associates is pleased to announce the promotions of three (3) of our Senior Associates 2 to the position of Senior Associate 1 (“SA1”), effective 15 July 2025.
This important milestone not only marks a strategic advancement in their individual legal careers but also reflects their unwavering commitment, technical excellence, and the exceptional value they bring to the Firm.
The newly promoted SA1 are as follows:
Nasbal graduated from Universiti Malaya with an LL.B (Hons) in 2015. Driven by a strong passion for litigation, he commenced his pupillage at Messrs Shaikh David Raj (now known as Messrs Shaikh David & Co), where he gained valuable experience in banking litigation, insurance disputes, and shipping & maritime matters. He was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in April 2017.
Nasbal later pursued a second pupillage in Sabah with Messrs Zainal & Associates and Messrs Ken Yong & Co, expanding his exposure to general litigation, banking disputes, and criminal defence. He was admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of Sabah & Sarawak in September 2018.
He began his legal career as Legal Associate at Messrs Haniff Khatri in December 2018, where he was actively involved in constitutional law and public interest litigation under the guidance of Mr. Haniff Khatri. In December 2020, he joined Messrs S.L. Leong, Kartina & Partners, handling construction, debt recovery, contractual, and commercial disputes. He later moved to Messrs Rao & Kamal in February 2022, where he handled matters involving city townhall disputes, accident claims and employment disputes. He also acted for Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) in debt recovery and meter-tampering cases.
Nasbal joined Azmi & Associates in November 2022 and is part of the Litigation & Arbitration Practice Group under the supervision of our Co-Deputy Managing Partner, Abu Daud Abd Rahim.
Ammera obtained her LL.B (Hons) from Universiti Teknologi MARA in 2017 and was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in November 2018.
She commenced her legal career at Messrs. Tan Norizan & Associates, completing her pupillage in September 2018 and was subsequently retained as a Legal Associate. In 2023, she joined Azmi & Associates and currently serves in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice Group.
Ammera has extensive experience in civil litigation, handling a wide range of disputes, including contractual, commercial, tortious and intellectual property disputes. She has acted for government agencies, private corporations, and individuals, and is experienced in adjudications under the Construction Industry Payment and Adjudication Act 2012 (“CIPAA“), defamation suits and land acquisition matters.
Her notable cases include representing clients in ex parte Mareva injunctions, striking out multi-million ringgit claims against statutory bodies, resisting applications for mandatory injunctions, and defending claims involving personal guarantees and allegations of fraud. She has appeared at all levels of the Malaysian courts and regularly assists in complex and high-value litigation.
Ammera also regularly publishes articles on topics such as constructive dismissal, unfair contract terms, and adjudication under CIPAA, featured both in firm publications and on professional platforms like LinkedIn. Ammera is actively involved in the Malaysian Bar and Kuala Lumpur Bar. She currently serves as a committee member of the Malaysian Bar’s Women’s Rights Committee and the National Young Lawyers and Pupils Committee. At the Kuala Lumpur Bar, she sits on the Professional Development, Civil Practice and Court Liaison, and the Gender Equality and Diversity Committees. She has previously served in similar roles at the Selangor Bar.
Committed to community engagement and legal advocacy, Ammera volunteers as a conversational Malay tutor for adult refugees at the Kachin Refugee Center. She has spoken at events such as the “Dealing with Sexual Harassment in the Legal Field” talk organized by NGO UPLIFT, and has moderated and emceed sessions at the Young Lawyers Forum 2025, Women Empowerment Talk, Women’s Rights Conference 2024, and the University of Malaya Law Conference 2024.
Tengku Nazmi graduated from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) with an LL.B (Hons) in 2020, obtaining a Second Class Upper.
From 2019 to 2020, he served as a Part-Time Research Assistant to Professor Ida Madieha Abdul Ghani Azmi, contributing to research in intellectual property and international trade. His work included preparing research proposals and presentations on trademark and patent law.
Beyond that, he also undertook an internship with RamRais & Partners (now known as Ram Caroline Sha & Syah) in 2019 where he was exposed to litigation and conveyancing work and assisted in the drafting and preparation of court documents.
Tengku Nazmi commenced his pupillage in January 2021 and was called to the Malaysian Bar and admitted to the roll of Advocates and Solicitors in July 2023. He is currently part of our Litigation & Arbitration Practice Group under the supervision of our Partner, Natalia Izra Dato’ Nasaruddin.
During his tenure with Azmi & Associates, he has acted as a solicitor, co-Counsel and/or Counsel in, amongst others, recovery matters, receiver and manager disputes, and complex corporate insolvency matters under the Companies Act 2016 and/or Companies (Corporate Rescue Mechanism) Rules 2018.
In their expanded roles, they will play a key part in advancing the Firm’s broader strategic priorities, including enhancing client service delivery, strengthening institutional capabilities, and sharpening our competitive edge.
