We are delighted to announce the appointment of Mr. Yap Chean Hong as Partner, Construction Dispute Practice, effective 13 October 2025.

Mr. Yap returns to Azmi & Associates with an impressive record in construction, engineering, oil & gas, and infrastructure dispute resolution. A First Class Honours graduate of the University of Reading, United Kingdom, he completed his Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) at BPP University, Manchester, and was admitted to Lincoln’s Inn. He brings with him a wealth of experience from his previous roles at Belden and Lui & Bhullar.

Having started his career with the Firm in 2017 under the mentorship of former Partner, Yang Arif Tuan Azlan Sulaiman, Mr. Yap’s journey comes full circle; returning to lead the Firm’s expanding Construction Practice. His portfolio includes landmark cases such as Malaysia’s largest CIPAA adjudication (RM200 million), multiple high-value arbitration wins, and significant advisory roles in national infrastructure projects, including MRT3 and power plant disputes for Tenaga Nasional Berhad.

With Mr. Yap’s addition, Azmi & Associates now has ten (10) Partners within its Litigation Division, reflecting the Firm’s strong and growing dispute resolution portfolio across arbitration, construction, and complex commercial litigation.

Mr. Yap’s appointment further strengthens the Firm’s ability to deliver strategic, high-impact legal solutions for clients navigating Malaysia’s evolving infrastructure and construction landscape.
