Mohd Irwan Ismail graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Adelaide, Australia which he obtained in December 2013.
Upon returning to Malaysia, he worked in a number of different companies with diverse backgrounds including with UMW Oil & Gas Corporation Berhad. While working full-time, he also pursued his Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) to which he obtained in 2016.
He later did his pupillage in Bell Herng & Aliman and was retained thereafter. He was later called to the Malaysian Bar and admitted to the roll of Advocates and Solicitors of the High Court of Malaya in December 2017.
He later joined as an Associate with Azmi & Associates and is in the Litigation practice group.
Some of Mohd Irwan’s most notable matters include:
⊕ Successfully resisting an appeal in the Court of Appeal representing the original landowner with a team of lawyers in a fraud and conspiracy to defraud matter involving a piece of land which had been fraudulently transferred twice from the original landowner.
⊕ Acting as a main person-in-charge in the first case of its kind in Malaysia in representing a state water operator against a multinational company to claim for capital contribution in supplying enormous water supply involving a relatively new statute (Water Services Industry Act 2006), various state enactments and a constitutional amendment.
⊕ Successfully resisting an appeal in the Court of Appeal with a team of lawyer involving a peculiar interlocutory application for the interpretation and setting up of parameter of a previous order made by the Court of Appeal by a different bench.
⊕ Handling a significant role in a complex assessment of damages against an established bank involving a series of restructuring schemes.
⊕ Representing clients in judicial review applications against decisions of a tribunal and land enquiry under the Land Acquisition Act 1960.
⊕ Representing clients in numerous interlocutory applications including striking out application, summary judgment application, Order 14A application, application for expungement of hearsay evidence and ex parte
