Recently Azmi & Associates, in collaboration with Remy & Partners, conducted a half-day workshop on Islamic Finance for various industry players in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The workshop was held at the Santika Hotel, Jakarta on 13 October 2010. The objectives of the workshop were to discuss contemporary issues surrounding the Islamic banking and finance industry, with particular focus on Indonesia, to share the vast experience of Azmi & Associates lawyers over a decade in the Islamic banking and finance industry in Malaysia, and to deliberate on various Islamic banking products ranging from Musharakah Mutanaqisah, Ijarah Muntahiyyah Bit-Tamlik, Commodity Murabahah and others, to be marketed in Indonesia.
The workshop was yet another step taken by Azmi & Associates to capitalise on opportunities and entrench its presence in the Indonesian market, as well as imparting practical knowledge to the participants and to prospective clients of the Firm on the essential issues surrounding Islamic banking and finance and various Islamic banking and finance products.

Among the speakers who represented Azmi & Associates were Ahmad Lutfi Abdull Mutalip, Partner/Head of the Global Financial Services & Islamic Banking Practice Group and Haji Rasheed Khan, Senior Counsel of the Firm. The other speaker was a senior practitioner from Remy & Partners, Ahmad Wangsawidjaja Zainuri. Drs. Asep Supyadillah, Senior Lawyer of Remy & Partners, moderated the session.

The workshop was attended by more than 40 participants from various organizations including local Islamic banks, financial institutions, takaful and insurance companies and legal consultants.
The discourse uncovered the huge potential and opportunities for the Islamic banking and finance market yet to be tapped in Indonesia, addressed the recent development and issues surrounding Islamic banking and finance industry in the region, and introduced Azmi & Associates as the leading law firm in the practice area of Islamic banking and finance.
The previous day, on 12 October 2010, Azmi & Associates conducted a full-day extensive course on Islamic Finance for 15 lawyers from Remy & Partners at the Law Offices of Remy & Partners in Senayan City, Jakarta. Ahmad Lutfi led the course. The modules which were discussed in detail included Understanding the Shariah Requirements in Legal Framework for Islamic Finance, Essential Legal Documentation for Islamic Financing Products and Legal Issues, Common Mistakes and the Challenges in Drafting of Islamic Financing Documentation.
