The 2010 Annual General Meeting of TerraLex was co-hosted by Miles & Stockbridge PC and Troutman Sanders LLP. The venue of the meeting was the historic Mayflower Renaissance Hotel. This hotel has a rich history according to the hosts, opened in 1925 and the Grand Ballroom has hosted many Presidential Inaugural Balls.

This meeting goes down in history as one of the most well-attended meetings, with 225 international delegates registered. In addition, TerraLex has also conducted various practice group meetings with a more focused topic on individual areas of practices.

Central in the discussions during the meeting were topics like changes in the landscape of financial regulation and reform, international trade, renewable energy, digitalization of courtroom processes and business development strategies.

TerraLex member firms from the Asia Pacific region also took the opportunity to have a more focused regional discussion by having a closed-door breakfast meeting. We discussed the proposal on Asia forum, the TerraLex Asia brochure, lawyers exchange program and the pursuit for new member firms from Indonesia and New Zealand.

Visit to World Bank, Washington

After the TerraLex meeting, Zuhaidi was invited to the World Bank office in Washington DC at 2121 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Zuhaidi is one of the permanent local correspondents of “Doing Business” publication issued by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), an agency under the World Bank. The “Doing Business” measures the performance of countries all over the world in terms of business regulations and ease of doing business and ranks them accordingly using various indicators. For your information, in “Doing Business 2011”, Malaysia is ranked number 21 from 183 economies surveyed, climbing two places from its position in 2010.

During the visit, Zuhaidi met a few of the top executives at IFC including Cemile Hacibeyoglu, Raian Divanbeigi, Tea Trumbic, Jean Michel Lobet and Karim Belayachi. Karim Belayachi visited A&A’s main office in Kuala Lumpur back in February 2010 to meet up with Zuhaidi and to gather additional information in various legal and regulatory issues in Malaysia.
