Azmi & Associates Establishes Indonesia Desk

In line with Azmi & Associates’ efforts to capitalise the opportunities and entrench its presence in the Indonesian market, the Firm is pleased to announce the setting up of an Indonesia Desk in its Kuala Lumpur Main Office to advise on Indonesia-related transactional work and to represent its Malaysian clients doing business in Indonesia.

Azmi & Associates has seen a growing global interest in exploring and searching for business opportunities in Indonesia in various sectors, which include, among others, infrastructure, mining, banking and financial sectors.

Azmi & Associates’ Participation at the International Trade Mark Association (INTA) Meeting 2010

INTA is an association of 5,900 trademark owners, professionals and academics from more than 190 jurisdictions. INTA serves the objectives of protecting and promoting the rights of trade mark owners, securing useful legislation and provide support to all efforts for the advancement and observance of trade mark rights.

In May each year, INTA holds their annual meeting which is the largest and most prestigious meeting of the international trademark community with more than 8,000 participants from more than 190 jurisdictions for five days of educational programs, committee meetings, exhibits, social events and networking opportunities.

The Pepeliaev Group’s Visit: Strengthening Alliance between Terralex Members

15 April 2010

On 15 April 2010, Azmi & Associates received a delegation from Russia, the Pepeliaev Group. The delegates were Roustam Vakhitov, Head of Group (International Taxation), Denis Bykov (Head of Practice Disputes Resolution) and Varvara Knutova, a litigation associates.

The main objective of their visit is to explore and learn more about the application, implementation and best practices of Islamic finance in Malaysia. The Russian federal government has recognised Islamic financial services as one of the many new economic models of the future which can nurtured as there is a huge demand for Islamic products such as sukuk, hire-purchase, property financing private loans and others.

Team Bonding: “Building a Winning Team” Programme

9 – 11 April 2010

Keeping the momentum from the “Building a High Performance Team” workshop, two weeks later, the Firm, together with Irshad HR Consulting Sdn Bhd, organised an invirogating 3-day 2-night Team Bonding: “Building a Winning Team” programme in cosy Bukit Tinggi, Pahang. More than 35 participants from the Firm attended this programme, conducted by consultants from Irshad HR Consulting Sdn Bhd.

On Day 1, the Programme started with an ice-breaking session and team formation. The participants then moved to outdoor activities, competing in teams and ending the day with finding a strategic view to teamwork.

“Building a High Performance Team” Workshop

As part of Azmi & Associates’ tireless efforts to be a continuos-learning organisation, the Firm, in collaboration with Skills Group International, conducted a 2-day workshop on “Building a High Performance Team” which was held on 24 and 25 March 2010 in Kuala Lumpur. More than 30 participants from the Firm attended this workshop, facilitated by Sandra Safwat from Skills Group International.

TerraLex 2010 Asia Pacific Regional Meeting in Melbourne, Australia

5 - 6 March 2010

Our Senior Associate, Noreeta Mohd Nor, recently attended the TerraLex 2010 Asia Pacific Regional Meeting in Melbourne, Australia to share ideas on business development, marketing aspects and the current challenging outlook of the global market and its impact on legal practice. The participants also exchanged overviews of member firms' experiences in their domestic and cross-border activities in the current economic crisis, particularly on ways to increase brand awareness to our clientele, some of whom have yet to benefit from the true scope of advantages offered by TerraLex.

   

2010 ASEAN IPA Annual Conference, Luang Prabang, Laos

4 - 6 March 2010

Azmi & Associates recently participated, through our representative, Khairul Fazli Abdul Kadir, Head of Multimedia, Technology and Intellectual Property Practice Group, in the Association of South East Asian Nations'  ("ASEAN") 2010 ASEAN Intellectual Property Association ("IPA") Annual Conference. The conference which discussed the enforcement of IP laws in the Indo-China region of ASEAN, provided a unique platform for collaboration, discussion and the exchange of ideas between the participants, and was attended by more than a hundred participants from more than ten Asian countries.

Azmi & Associates Establishes its Chinadesk Division

11 December 2009

Spreading its wings regionally, Malaysia-based Azmi & Associates has launched its Chinadesk on 11 December 2009 with the concurrent uploading of its new Chinese-language website at chinadesk.azmilaw.com. The Chinadesk will focus on providing cross-border legal services to Chinese-speaking markets, its legal team comprising legal advisors familiar with Chinese social, political and business culture, and equally commercial-savvy.
